You could buy some ply-wood, and cut it to size to fit over the slats for extra support. We just put in some extra slats but plan on putting a board down. My almost 9 and 6 year olds have been sleeping in bunk beds for 3 years.

My 6 and 10 year old have been sleeping in bunks for 3 years now. My 10 year old is about 100 lbs and he sleeps on the top. We have had no problems. If purchased at a good store their are many safety standards. I've never heard of bunk beds falling down. Good luck.

if you have at least 3 pieces of wood the right length-so they dont slip.I currently sleep on the top bunk of my daughters bed-but feel safe with ours-I got it from a good place and the bottom holding the mattress has a ledge around the bottom of top mattress and a string of boards up and down it. when I was young and had cheap bunk beds my sister used to fall on me all the time and half the mattress-if its any security for you -it never hurt and was always just funny-this was about 25 years ago and they've improved alot since then

I slept on bunk beds until I was a teen, my teens share a room and use a bunk bed as well. They are safe, assuming they are of quality. I always put the oldest on top for fear of the youngest getting scared in the middle of the night and falling off.

They are safe to stack, me and my brother slept on bunk beds for as long as we had to. The thing that always worried me more is children rolling off them, or getting up there and pretending they are super-man.

I slept on a wooden bunk bed with my brother for 10+ years. We never had any problems with them. If you do not feel like the slabs are enough you can always stop at the local lumber yard or Home Depot and pick up another slab. Good luck!! They will be fine!!

If you bought a quality bed then yes they are safe to stack. If you are uncomfortable then just buy some more slats and use them for support. A "bunkie board" can also help to support the mattress.
Remember the weight of the mattress and the child is distributed over the entire length/width of the bed not just on one little slat.

Yes, they are safe. I've had them for five years now. Just be sure they are assembled correctly. Never allow jumping on the top bunk.

I had them growing up and we used them till I was 13. I was the oldest and slept on top. Stack them and then get an adult to climb on top to test them!
You can also add a few more slabs of wood to help out!
