Sorry, but the majority of you are pontificating ( what the pope is supposed to do!) There would be no Bible if it were not for the unbroken succession of the popes (Anti-Popes excepted) and the Catholic Church ( Study the Early Church) . It was all Catholic until the Reformation in Europe and England. The Pope is only infallible when he acts along with the Cardinals and Bishops in pronouncing a matter of faith without error. As a man of course he is not infallible. Jesus made Peter the visible foundation of his Church on earth when he gave him the keys, and to his successors.

Definitely not, the Pope is a man, just like any of us, who sins every day as we all do (Romans 3:23). The position of Pope is not referred to anywhere in the Bible (though many claim that Peter was the first Pope) and was created through the Roman Catholic beliefs and traditions, which do not reflect biblical teachings. Since the Pope does not hold true to the Scriptures, he is definitely not the apex of Christianity.

He is all too human and has made some silly mistakes. But i still think the idea of a pope as a spiritual guide who (theoretically) brings together catholics from various secular communities, is good. Few people in the modern day will claim the pope is infallible (if you look at the Bible, Peter had his flaws).

i think of there is a few thing that announces the pope is infallible and however the Catholic church have many human beings seek for suggestion from and do study into new doctrines and methods that the pope endorses. My factor it that it is not continuously the pope who comes up with the belief of a clean factor in the Catholic church, purely whilst it is been studied and authorized by skill of many. i'm no longer a Catholic by skill of any skill yet I even have enjoyed those I even have met in my time on earth. i'm hoping this answer facilitates you.

I think the Pope is the man Paul mentions in 2 Thessalonians 2: 3-12

The Pope is just a man like you and me, Is full of weaknesses just uses more self control . He knows there is a God, so is the Devil aware of God, and only if the Pope has asked God for forgiveness of sins and asked Jesus into his heart and excepts God's Son as the only one who can save us, and not through any other person living or dead, Then he might even end up being a Christian, There is no other way said the Lord except through Me

Matt. 10:20; Luke 12:12 - Jesus tells His apostles it is not they who speak, but the Spirit of their Father speaking through them. If the Spirit is the one speaking and leading the Church, the Church cannot err on matters of faith and morals.

Matt. 16:18 - Jesus promises the gates of Hades would never prevail against the Church. This requires that the Church teach infallibly. If the Church did not have the gift of infallibility, the gates of Hades and error would prevail. Also, since the Catholic Church was the only Church that existed up until the Reformation, those who follow the Protestant reformers call Christ a liar by saying that Hades did prevail.

Matt. 16:19 - for Jesus to give Peter and the apostles, mere human beings, the authority to bind in heaven what they bound on earth requires infallibility. This is a gift of the Holy Spirit and has nothing to do with the holiness of the person receiving the gift.

Matt. 18:17-18 - the Church (not Scripture) is the final authority on questions of the faith. This demands infallibility when teaching the faith. She must be prevented from teaching error in order to lead her members to the fullness of salvation.

Matt. 28:20 - Jesus promises that He will be with the Church always. Jesus' presence in the Church assures infallible teaching on faith and morals. With Jesus present, we can never be deceived.

Regarding other issues he may be fallible

Catholics only believe he is infallible on matters of doctrine and when speaking 'ex cathedra'.

As for some of the more outrageous anti-Catholic postings on this page, all I can say is that you Christians (whatever sect you belong to) really need to read the words of your professed saviour before you start pontificating on who is right, who is wrong, who's a 'real' Christian, and who's not. He must despair when he sees some of the vitriol that is posted purporting to represent his view. Christianity is supposed to be a religion of love, or so I was led to believe. There's not much evidence of of it in your dealings with each other, let alone other religions.

Really makes me glad to be a Pagan.

First of all he is only supposed to be infallible in matters of faith, though that hasn't the hubris of previous Popes. Prior to 11th century when Roman Catholics split from the Orthodox church, all accepted that apostolic authority resided in the 5 bishops in the five main centres of Christianity. Then the Bishop in Rome got greedy and declared himself supreme. Furthermore, he did I think, declare joint apostolic authority a heresy. Which as the church had accepted it previous to that makes them guilty of a heresy. Either way the Papal claim of infallibility and apostolic succession is void.

Furthermore, St Peter ceded authority to St James the Just, brother of Jesus when the question of circumcision of Gentiles was raised. Suggesting that James not Peter was the leader of the Church after Jesus.
