HI
It is someone who has gained wisdom and tolerance from their persecutions in life and still is humble enough to accept the blows life hands you with wisdom and faith and know that GOD will help you through it.

The patient endurance of wrong or provocation, combined with a refusal to give up hope for improvement in the disturbed relationship. Long-suffering therefore has a purpose, looking particularly to the welfare of the one causing the disagreeable situation. It does not mean the condoning of wrong, however. When the purpose for long-suffering is accomplished, or when there is no point in further putting up with the situation, long-suffering ends. It ends either with good to those giving provocation or with action against the wrongdoers. In any case the one exercising long-suffering is not harmed in spirit.

The literal meaning of the Hebrew expression translated “slow to anger” (“long-suffering” in some translations) is “length of nostrils [where anger flares up].” (Ex 34:6; Nu 14:18; see ANGER.) The Greek word ma‧kro‧thy‧mi′a (long-suffering) literally means “longness of spirit.” (Ro 2:4, Int) Both the Hebrew and Greek expressions denote patience, forbearance, slowness to anger. The English word “suffering” in the word “long-suffering” has the sense of “putting up with, permitting, tolerating, holding up, or delaying.” “Long-suffering” means more than merely enduring pain or trouble. It does not mean merely “suffering long” but involves deliberate restraint.

That's an old word that means basically patience. You must be using an older translation. When you have to wait its like suffering in a way.

Galatians 5:22 - NAS
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Galatians 5:22 - NLT
But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Galatians 5:22 - KJV
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

It's translated from the Greek word "makrothumio," which means patience, endurance, constancy, steadfastness, perseverance, slowness in avenging wrongs.

It's termed as it is, I believe, to reveal the perseverance aspect. Sometimes, we have to deal with things or put up with a trial or a person for a while. And we become better people & develop better attitudes when we have patience through it all.

Matthew 5:11 says “Happy are YOU when people reproach YOU and persecute YOU and lyingly say every sort of wicked thing against YOU for my sake. "

There will be a time when people will persecute those who follow Jesus, long-suffering is the key to be able to "endure until the end."

It is ultimate patience on someone or something. It is like postponing judgement on someone in the hope that he or she will change with time hence the term long-suffering - you will be bearing with someone more than what is necessary

The word "long-suffering" in my Bible (NIV) is rendered as "patient".The word "patient" comes from the word for suffering in Latin, which is why it is natural in English to describe being patient as being long-suffering. Christians are required to follow Jesus in enduring patiently the problems of every day life and in being patient with the people around them.

It is usually translated as "patience" or "endurance" in most newer translation. It means being up to survive problems and trials with a good attitude and postitive outlook. You can put up with things (like parents and siblings - LOL) without getting all bend out of shape.

it is patience .that is what being patient is .it is waiting on line at a fast food restaurant , the cashier is new and it is the height of the dinner hour.when it is your turn ,you kindly place your order with a smile ,knowing that it should not have taken 30 minutes to place an order, instead of smashing the place up.
