I just received an email from a professed Christian. I had pointed out in an earlier answer that Christians threaten people with hell as a basic premise of their faith in order to convert people. He responded by sending me an email saying, "We do not threaten non-believers. We simply tell them that if they do not accept Jeses they will burn in hell forevr". Are there any people out there that DO NOT see this belief structure as a basic threat????!!!!

if you believe in christianity, you believe in heaven. to enter into heaven, which in jesus's terms is "my father's house", you have to believe in jesus - thats a no brainer, and its clearly stated in every translation of the bible out there. however, to state that any place other than heaven is hell is wrong. there is purgatory - that state of limbo, or "in between" for those who haven't made up their minds which way they swing, so they just bob along, like riding with charon the ferryman on the river styx in egyptian lore, when you haven't paid him to cross over. more to the point - if you don't believe in heaven, hell or purgatory, why do ppl keep arguing this point with those who do? live and let live - everyone has a right to their beliefs.

Well, how else do you sway the power of the masses, you use fear. Eternal damnation is a pretty big threat for not excepting an entire belief structure while at the same time, eternal life in some cloud fortress is a pretty good reward.
Maybe if Christians were to follow more of the ideas of JC such as turning the other cheek and not focusing on all the crazy **** like walking on water, people would be more willing to listen or at least not think that they are out of their gorges.

there is truth in it....but the way that people proclaim the truth decides how people take it. If you want to reach a person tell them about christ, his love, and what he did for you. They need to be told of hell being that it is a real consequence but it should not be the only thing mentioned. To put it plainly approaching a person you dont know and telling them they are going to hell may be right but usually is not thebest way to witness

as all their lives are based in taboos so they don`t consider this as a threat, because simply their daily life consists of continuous threats because they don`t believe that their conscious can lead them to the right path so they take the other way " if you do you get ,if you don`t you are burned in hell"

That's awesome!! Hilarious!! Christians are soooooo crazy sometimes! They cannot see how illogical their arguments are!! I get the crazies telling me I'll be saved but I haven't had anyone email me to tell me that I'm gonna burn!! I guess they think because I understand their religion I will eventually believe it and that's so opposite of the truth- the more I know the less I want to associate myself with them!!!

Join or suffer the consequences.

Yeah, seems like a threat.

When they are self convinced that this is an inevitable "fact" they feel they are offering a warning. This is just a standard default answer. It is like asking an Algebra student to define Pi, their default answer is 3.14 even though we know it is a much more precise numerical sequence.

Well just look at the leaders and see the ignorance they base philosophies on. Felonies of the Christian art are plentiful...

Hell isn't a threat. It's a choice.

Haha, yeah. If "listen to me or burn forever" isn't a threat, then what is it? That's what I'd like to know.
