You can't time it, mate. And cancer isn't the only thing you have to worry about. Everyone on the planet should know by now that besides cancer, smoking can cause heart disease, stroke, hypertension, gangrene, emphysema, and God knows what else, plus it will make absolutely any medical condition you have or get in the future worse.
Whether it's on your behalf or someone else's that you're asking this question, the person needs to wake up. Smoking is suicide.

Of course it causes damage! It's a cigarette!! It doesn't matter how many you are smoking per day, ONE will cause damage.
As for the many days it will take to cause damage, that all depends on the person. Some people can develop cancer in the mouth or lungs after a short time of use, in others it might wait for years and years.
My only suggestion, quit smoking now!! That way you may be lucky and never have to find out how long it takes YOU!

It all depends really, but even 1 cigarette here or there is damaging enough. Second hand can be worse as well and your getting both because of the actual inhale and then the rest that lingers in the air. It could take only a month for one person to develop cancer while on the other hand, my grandfather knew a man who smoked and drank all his life all the time and lived to be 105. Talk about lucky, but that's no excuse. Quit now!

It has the potential to cause severe damage...you're talking at least a pack of day. If you listen to all the information being put forth regarding cigarette smoking, no amount is good for you. However, that being said, smoking is one of the major causes of (lung) cancer, however, smoking does not guarantee you'll get cancer, just will exponentially increase your chances. And it is very possible for non smokers to develop the same type of cancers as smokers (just their chances aren't nearly as much).

Only 1 cigarette a day can cause severe damage. There's no timeline as to "when" cancer will occur, and for some, it won't occur at all, but you're putting your health at risk in sooo many ways by smoking.
Take a look at this to see how it affects your body...

Smoking 20 to 25 cigarettes a day is not good for you and does damage your lungs. You will as you get older get short of breath and climbing stairs will be a nightmare. But because you smoke does not mean that you WILL get cancer. You will have a higher chance of getting cancer but it is not guaranteed you will.

"Smoking 20 cigarettes a day you are about 20 times more likely than non-smoker to get lung cancer.
However, if you stop smoking your risk of developing lung cancer will fall quite rapidly. Within 5 years of stopping the risk will have halved. By 15 to 20 years after stopping your chance of developing lung cancer will be about the same as that of someone who has never smoked.
The age at which you stop smoking is also important. Statistics suggest that if you stop smoking before the age of 35, as you have done, then your life expectancy will be about the same as that of a non-smoker. "
Hope it helps :)

Depends on your genetic tendency to cancer. Most people can smoke 3 packs a day for years without getting cancer.
