Why not paint or paper in a very neutral colour, this way you can spend money on finishing touches to make it special.
Chose a colour scheme for the finishing touches.
If you cant afford to change the bed totally, then a new headboard would make a difference. A new mattress or a mattress topper would make the bed feel brand new again.
Beautiful curtains are essential, and if the room is overlooked in any way, bright white net curtains will instantly make the room look brighter.
Update the furniture with paint if you cannot purchase new stuff and remove any clutter, including anything that is not to do with sleeping! TVs are an absolute no no in the bedroom!
Buy fabulous new bedding, get a new duvet and pillows (there is something very special about falling into a bed made with new bedding!) and add to the bed with a throw, or a blanket and some lovely pillows.
I love the idea about a new nightie or even some comfy PJs if your wife likes that sort of thing!
A couple of matching table lamps with low light bulbs in them, perhaps candles or fake flowers on the shelves or bed side tables.
If you have a dressing table get a new bright shiny mirror so that she can get ready here, and move plug sockets if you can so that she can plug in any appliances. Lay out some fabulous new hair/makeup/perfume products on the table - or perhaps a beautiful jewellery box containing a nice surprise!
Rugs and pictures on the wall make a bedroom feel homely and cosy. Chose a warm textured rug - something to sink your feet into, and pictures that you know she will like. Local scenes? Family protraits? Abstract prints? I know what I would like on the walls.
Anyway, good luck - Im sure she will love whatever you do!

The idea that you are doing this for your wife is so wonderful, more men should take the lead. I would get some home catalogs, or take her to a linen shop just to "browse" see what type of curtains, bedspread she likes, the colors she likes then you can go from there....candles and some good love making music in your bedroom will make you a real hit! A tv in the bedroom at night sometimes kills the mood, as will PETS and KIDS...ha send her to a day at a spa while you do your remake, have lots of help there!!!

It depends what you mean by decorate.
If you mean that you want to add a few things for romance or to just see her smile, then I suggest a vase or two filled with her favorite flowers, some chocolate in a pretty box, and candles.
If you mean that you want to completely redo the bedroom, then my suggestion is DO NOT do anything without consulting her!
Your thoughtfulness is very sweet, but your wife should be included in major refurbishing decisions...just the thought that you want to do this for your wife - give her the bedroom of her dreams - is surprise enough!
Your wife sounds like a very lucky woman!

Unless you and your wife are totally in tune about colour schemes etc, then i would not decorate the bedroom without discussing it with her first.
When you have both decided on colour, new furnishings, lights and everything TOGETHER then go ahead, and when the new room is 'open' then celebrate in bed with a bottle of champers on ice, some candles, music and i'm sure she will love it!

Luxurious cushions on the bed is a definite must! Lamp lights that give a soft glow and a furry throw for the bed also (fake of course!). These things will add a touch of warmth and class and create a relaxed mood to the room.
How very nice of you! Good luck.

Nice idea! You get points just for thinking of doing this. I think you should include soft lighting, candles, and for a personal touch, try framing pictures of the two of you and hanging them. Best of luck!

a professional decorator.
go to furniture store for one. the little things are what 'makes' the room. this is the hardest part of decorating (and even most women need help in this area).

we would need to know something about her to be able to help,
how old is she (about)
what does she like to do
what is her personality..
that way we could give color suggestions,
hang pictures of what ever is special to both of you,
cant really give an opinion without more information..
but it is cool you want to do this for her..
good luck

To make it special, tell her first. Find out what colour scheme, furnishings & accessories she'd prefer or you might have to do the whole job twice.
