I believe Virgin Mary is the purest woman in creation and her devotion to God made her be the choosen one. but I must say I laugh at people who picture this 30+ year old woman carrying baby Jesus (PBUT), because this picture is a fabrication. Just like the fabrication that Jesus (PBUH) was white and had blue eyes and blond hair!

So at 12-14 in those times it was a perfectly normal age to have a child. Do you think this is under age?

yes it is underage..by today's standards. The average life expectancy back then was HALF of what it is today, so back then it was completely acceptable. 12 to them is 24 to us.

You laugh at people for believing that Jesus had blond hair and blue eye. It is merely a result of the eurocentric representations in the middle ages, does it really matter in the long run whether Jesus had blond hair or a green mohawk.

Nonetheless, atheists might laugh at you for saying that, "I believe Virgin Mary is the purest woman in creation..." Theists like you love to make these assertions without the slightest bit of proof.

According to apocryphal writings Mary spent her childhood from age 3 – 12 in the temple. Mary wearing a sash whose both ends are knotted in such a way that they are hanging loose and low. The sash is a typical attribute of the virgin in the temple and symbolizes Mary’s chastity and virginal and exclusive dedication to God later on. The sash is also attributed to the Immaculata.

At the time, the average and acceptable age of a young woman to be married was around 15 so while to our way of thinking it seems incredibly young, it was the norm for their time and culture...and shockingly enough there are still cultures where 15 year olds are married and preparing to have families. As for our incredibly inaccurate vision of a blond haired, blue eyed Mary...unfortunately, those were created by the prejudices of the time--especially around the Renaissance age (and their idea of beauty)--but I believe that most people at this point are more intelligent than to go for that these days.

At the time it happened, no 12-14 was not considered underage. Until recent history a female was considered a woman by her first menstruation. Even in this country, those who traveled across the Great plains were often child brides. I will have to say that with shorter life spans folks had to act/be more mature sooner.

In our day and age I do believe that 12-14 in underage.

12 -14 is not proven to be Mary's age but if that is correct I don't personally think it is wrong, if acceptable by the culture of that day. I don't recall the Bible putting any age on marriage. Even 9 years old for Mohammed is not wrong as long as they were married, and there is no physical harm done to the girl. There are cultures today where that is a regular practice.

Mary was arond 15 maybe 16, & she was coneived by the Holy Ghost & not by sexual relationship, in fact Joeseph did not even have a sexual relationship with Mary until after Jesus Christ was born. You seem to be missing the most important point. She was a virgin even though she was pregnant. Joseph knew that and they had a loving, one man one woman relationship after Jesus was born. Muhammad on the other hand, started playing with a 6 year old and married her at 9 when she started menstruating. He's a sick non-prophet.

Back when women were treated like property (just 200 years ago in the West) if you were old enough to have children (menstruate), you were old enough to breed. The old "You can bleed, you can breed" mentality. Of course it was under age. If a modern child is not emotionally old enough to have children why would an ignorant, poor child at that time, be emotionally prepared?

It does not matter what we think. The fact is that the Bible does not specify and, if this age is true, God saw fit to allow a virgin to conceive the very Son of God. His ways are mysterious and unexplainable to us, but we must accept them as He knows what is best...read John 3:16...
