First thing in favour of it, is that potential mates are screened by the family keeping in mind similar cultural, religious and educational upbringing. The chances of differences are lesser, similar mindset ensures greater understanding.
Secondly, there is greater security as families are involved from the beginning people try to work through difficult times than just give up.
Couples get to know each other as the relationship goes so it is no different than a love marriages, as even in love marriages people find their mates attitude different from what it was when they were courting.
Thirdly, if anything goes wrong you can always blame your family for taking that decision for you :)

Here's a great point: Men (and women) are carefully screened by the potential spouse's family for such qualities as education level, income, family background, and of course (and often overlooked) the compatibility between the two. Sounds a shade better than picking up someone in a bar, huh?
