In hand to hand combat is the headbutt considered to be the most effective blow if full contact is made? Obviously it's easier to strike an opponent with a fist, foot, knee or elbow but surely the Glasgow kiss is the most effective when employed at close range.

No , the head butt is not the most effective technique. On the other hand the head in butt technique is very confusing .

Like any other question about the 'best' or 'most lethal' strike, it all comes down to training. Most people don't practice delivering headbutts. A well trained Muay Thai fighter can deliver devastating knees and elbows at close range. The head also offers very little in the way of targets. You basically have to hope that the opponent puts the target right in front of you. Knees and elbows offer a variety of possibilities.

Just my opinion.

Don't know if it's the most 'lethal' but it is effective in (very) close range combat. There are a WIDE variety of lethal blows one can inflict on an opponent, especially considering that striking an opponent's nose upwards with the heel of your palm could kill someone much easier than a headbutt.

well, yes and no, actually an upward palm strike to the nose can be more lethal than that due to the fact that the bone shelf that connects the cartilage of the nose to the skull can fracture causing the bone to pierce the the frontal lobe area of the brain and possibly cause death very quickly.

A head butt however is good at giving you a quick strike ability and cause your opponent to be off guard for several moments when striking them, but it can also work against you if done improperly.

but most any strikes to the head and neck area can be pretty lethal with the proper amount of force and if you know where and how to strike

While I agree a properly used headbut is a very effective attack I'd still say a knee or elbow to the bridge of the nose or the esophagus is more lethal. But yes, it's a nasty attack and should be used with caution.

The head becomes lethal when opponent is grappled with arms pinned and your head in the throat region. Also used when "blocking" grab or grapple attempts. I have personnally used the head but in closing techniques to apply throws take downs or holds. (small circle ju-jitsu)

Well I don't know. It's hard to better the power and destruction of a flailing mace at close range but I'm pretty sure that Zenezine Zidane would agree with your analysis.

Ha ha, it's the most damaging strike... if you are a member of the French World Cup Soccer Team.
