Put the puppy on lead when you are working with it. When the pup bites, tell the pup "NO" and make it sit. Then praise the pup for sitting. Ignore bad behavior, meaning do not pet or praise the pup when it is doing something you don't want it to do. Also, when this happens, correct the pup with a NO and give the pup a toy to chew on. This is normal behavior for a puppy.
Also, do not use a spray bottle on a pup this young, or never put bitter apple in the pups mouth for doing this. You will create a fear problem by doing this.

When puppies play they will bite each other. When it gets too hard they will yelp loudly and stop playing. The pups soon learn to bite too hard means no more playing!!
So, when he bites yell in pain, even if it's a tiny nip!! And walk away from him, turn your back and leave him alone for 5 or10 min's! He'll soon cotton on that if he bites, you leave him alone. Dogs are pack animals and want to be a part of the pack. He will want to please you, the Alpha male, so ignoring him will work. But please give it a little time. My 7 month old Akita is pretty good but can forget when she's excited. So be patient.
Does he know what "No!" means yet?? That helps too but don't forget to praise him when he's good. Just saying No all the time won't help form a good relationship.
Go & do a few puppy classes with him. You will both learn heaps!!
Good luck & enjoy your pup!

You have to take your Shepherd to obedience school. You will be very glad you did. German Shepherds can be very aggressive, so any problems such as biting needs to be corrected while the pup is still young. I took my Shepherd to puppy school, as well as Obedience school. When your puppy snaps at you, make sure to pull your hand away and say "Easy". Practice giving your dog treats, and if he snaps for it, pull it away and give the easy command. Then try again saying easy. Do not allow him to take the treat untill he reaches for it gently. He will then grasp on to the meaning of the command, and you can use it anytime he snaps. Good luck!

He's just a puppy, so it's normal for him to bite and chew things. That's how they play and strengthen their jaw muscles. But if it really bothers you take him to obedience school. Just don't ever hit him, use verbal commands to let him know when you think he's doing something wrong. I have an 11 yr old Weimaraner, (usually a very stubborn and hyper breed). I've never struck him and he listens and behaves very well, on and off leash. Plus, you don't want to be one of those people whose dog flinches every time they raise their hand above their head, (even when it's not to hit them). I've seen it happen and it's really sad. Anyway, don't worry, I'm sure your pup will be great whether you train him or you decide to get professional help. GL, and enjoy your pup.
PS I wasn't trying to imply that u were ever going to hit your pup. It's just that I went to pet another dog at the park last weekend and when I reached out my hand to let him sniff me he flinched and hit the ground like I was going to hit him, it was really sad. I wanted to dog-nap him right then and there. So sorry for going on about it in my above post, it was/is just fresh on my mind.

you both need to go to obedience school. if you aren't alpha enough to control your 21/2 month pup, what are you going to do when it's 2 1/2 yrs and 100 lbs????
you need to learn how to take control and be the leader. try this.
you need a time out corner for the dog. everytime the dog bites you (by the way, he's trying to show he's the boss), tell him NO in a firm (not screaming or yelling) loud voice. if he continues, put him in the time out corner. it'll help him to calm down and refocus. but you have to make him stay there even if you have to stand on a leash. he'll get it eventually, but not overnight. and be consistant.

normal puppy behavior, and my GSD did they same when she was little..Everytime he/she bites u stand up yell no and fold your arms and give her no attention. Showing them that they do NOT get attention when thy do that will work. Also you can put a toy in their mouth whn they start to bite you will put their focus and energy on the toy, and off of you. Be patient and consistent, and they will soon learn to not bite the hand that feeds them. Just remember this is a normal thing. They are experiencing their environment.

Hes still a puppy just make sure you have lots of chew toys so he can have something to chew on other then your hand. Also you can use a spray bottle or when he bites you stop playing with him and ignore him....then he knows it wasnt nice and he cant play if hes going to bite.
