I'm from the town where Spitfire is brewed and I'd say that's pretty good stuff. Alternatively Whitstable Bay organic beer, also Shepherd Neame, is very tasty, and the best pint of Master Brew, Shep's biggest seller, is sold by the Crown and Anchor in the Mall...

Looking further afield, Black Sheep is yummy, Hobgoblin, Hopdaemon, real ales in general really...

Impossible to say - it all depends on personal taste. But if put to the vote I wouldn't be surprised if Timothy Taylors Landlord won. But there are plenty of other outstanding beers. None of them are lagers - British lagers (even those with foreign names) are generally brewed from cheap ingredients, not matured properly and then pasteurised and pumped full of carbon dioxide. They are not what any German would call 'lager'.
By the way, Stella Artois is only a Belgian NAME. Wife-Beater is brewed in the UK, whatever they might want you to believe.

Ah, real ale, now you're talking. For me, it depends on the time of year. In summer I go for either Tanglefoot by Badger or Hopback Summer Lightning. In deep dark winter I like dark, heavy, sweet beers like Youngs Winter Warmer and Shepherd Neame's Christmas Ale. Autumn, I like red beers like Autumn Red by Shepherd Neame or maybe Tanglefoot again. Spring I tend to go for Smithwicks as it's brewed in Northern Ireland and is only available over there, and Spring is when I manage to get there sometimes (my Dad's from Belfast).

It's very much a matter of personal taste and your own palate and sensibilities, but all these people raving about lager just remind me of the Hobgoblin advert "What's the matter Lager Boy, Scared you might taste something?"

Too many UK beers are full of chemicals.

I get Bavarian-brewed beer as they have purity laws and therefore no added chemicals.

Konig Ludwig is a good one (especially Dunkel) and DAB is nice too. Lowenbrau is OK too.
They also taste much nicer than usual UK beers.

Try a drop of O'Hanlons Port Stout, just the thing to warm the cockles of the Heart. Or a nice glass of any of the Branscombe Vale Brewery Beers, Branoc, Jolly Geoff, to name but two.

A tough one to answer! It's pretty much down to personal taste, but I like any beer the Harvey's brewery in Sussex produces. Lovely stuff!

Just a note on Daniel-Son-Bonsai's response. All lager is beer. Not all beer is lager. What a snob.

Theakstons is my favourite
