I don't know where these people have got their info from but WRONG I am assuming your kitten is a female considering you have used the word 'spayed' she needs to go through the first heat as if she is spayed at this age she will keep all her traits of being a kitten and will not grow up (mentality wise) so if she is annoying at the moment as she is diving around attacking your feet etc she will keep these traits

Oh my gosh, I can't believe some vets are still pushing for cats to be declawed. That is supposed to be stopping, as vets have realized that it's actually a harsh thing to do now-a-days. That vet was completely rude and absolutely crossing lines. How ignorant. I am glad you are finding a new vet. Anyways, Our vet advised us to get our kitty fixed when she was 12-16 weeks. She was done at 15 and did very well. We rescued our kitty though and she needed to gain weight first, or she could have been done at 8-10 weeks. Hope this helps. Our vet also told us that it's best to get any animal fixed as soon as they are of age because if you can catch them before they go into the hormones stage, it will be better for them in the long run. When an animal does not get fixed and or does get a chance to have hormones, even if it's for a short time, they can have troubles down the road. For instance, no fixing can lead to cancer, tumors, organ troubles and all sorts of things. Hormones coming in for a bit can lead to slight behavior troubles, but usually in most cases they go away once hormones are fully gone (meaning the fixing took place) It sounds like you are a great person, and I commend you for caring for your kitty. Thank you, and good luck...

Spaying the kittens young is NOT bad for them, as a matter of fact, it is better for they get over the surgery quicker. I rescue feral and/or stray cats and if they weigh 2 lbs. (which is 4 weeks old) then they are altered. I have been doing this for several months and have not lost any kittens from the surgery and they are all doing fine.

We spay and neuter at 6 months of age. Your kitten should have been going to the vet getting her vaccinations during this time, so your vet should have mentioned to you that it's getting to be the optimal time for spaying.

She can be spayed anytime. She is not too young at all! In fact, if you can have her spayed before she comes into her first heat cycle that will reduce her risks of developing mammary cancer down the line by 300%. After each heat cycle her risk becomes higher.

Do it ASAP. Female kittens should be spayed around 4 months, but you can do it at any time.

I don't think you've waited too long, but I would get it done now: unless you really want to get into trying to give your cat birth control pills, or keeping her locked away from all other cats when she comes into season.
Cat mating is fairly red in tooth and claw, with the fighting that can occur, and the actual act of mating is painful for the female as the male's penis is barbed, to induce ovulation.
So I'd suggest you make an appointment for your cat fairly soon.

Go to your vet, the kitten will need a couple of sets of shots before they can spay it. It doesn't neccessarily need to be done before the cat goes into heat, you can wait till a couple years of age. It is easier on the cat if you do it as soon as possible.

It's best to have your kitty spayed around 6 months old, or as soon as she starts to show the signs of coming into heat. If she is old enough for her first heat cycle, she is old enough to be spayed.

for a female, you need to get her spayed before she goes into heat the first time; for a male, I think it's 6 m. Check with your local vet.
