You can download instructions for 1040 schedule A to see what itemized deductions are allowed.

To see all credits, adjustments and deductions that might be available to you, download publication 17.

The IRS website is a good start - www.irs.gov

Click the "Forms and Publications" link and then the "Publication number" link. Publication 17 is a good place to begin.
