I have a kitten who will soon be a cat (she's 10 months old) and she follows us everywhere...including out the door. Most mornings, I'm able to give her some food and she eats while I sneak out the door. But soon I'll be starting a new job and will be leaving later, meaning that she'll have eaten by the time I leave. This morning she followed me out and it was a mess; I nearly threw her back in the door while trying to juggle my bags and keys. Help! How do I get the kitten to stay??

Some of those suggestions are good, however have you tried to get another cat? I have always had 2 cats because i don't always stay home all the time and I know cats are social animals and MAYBE having another one to keep the first one company would be a good idea. I would suggest adopting one at the same age as your current one and of the same sex. Maybe then she would let you leave knowing she had a friend at home. Cats are very attention starved, its a good thing to hear she doen't like you to leave that means she loves you and you treat her well =) thast all I can think of for you one this one and good luck !

I had this problem with a younger kitten for a while also - I finally found that the best thing that worked, since I didn't want to lock her in a room all day by herself, was to get a spray bottle, filled with water (just plain water) - and kept it by the door - it did not hurt her, but surprised her enough to avoid the thing - I sprayed her when she came near the door, and kept it right by the door, for when I was heading out. (It got so that all I had to do was just show her the bottle, and she'd keep her distance - it allowed me to escape, lol) She finally got the "hint" - and still loved me, because when I came home, she was always waiting there, right by the door, for me. Try it, hope it helps.

That's a hard one. I know. I have a 2 year old cat. Smokey. Hes a trouble, but I love him. He sounds just like your cat. you could try a trick I used to do. right before you go out put her under a laundry basket. I know it sounds mean but she'll be able to get out. You might want to check first. If she can't try to find something that will hold her for a couple of minutes but she can get out of. In the morning right before you leave grab her put her under the laundry basket and run out the door.

Put her food pan in another part of the house and put the cat in the room with the food. Close the door and leave her there all day.

Maybe when you wake up you should put it in a kennal or something. But i think your cat would be very board. you should walk into a room and put its food toys etc in thier and hurry and shut the door so you have time to get ready and leave without problems yeah shell probley meow her little head off but you have to get to work right! ha
