Interesting article I came across... see point 12.
http://www.bible.ca/islam/islam-myths-fastest-growing.htm
Muslims lie when they tell you they are the fastest growing (1.56) religion in North America. From Table 1-4, we can see that they are no better than 5th place in growth behind: Atheists (3.51), Hindus (3.13), Sikhs (2.81), Buddhists (2.75), Baha’is (2.25). We tire of the lies and myth making of Islamic spin doctors.
Is anyone suprised at this?

I was not inciting hatred just pointing out that the claim to fame might be a bit misleading. I am aware that Atheism is not a religion but it constitues a choice that us a statistical part of the population so it can be measured. I am more suprised that the media pushes this wagon than anything and I wonder why.

onewhosub...your links are a little old and there has been this 911 thing since...The article even says that technically it is a true statement but it is misleading none the less. I didn't set out to find such proof I just came across it and found it interesting...My friend Ishmael can assure you I do not hate muslims but I do love finding proof contradicting any of my intellectual friends claims because it is simply fun.

Pilgrim, your links are also a bit old -- that data is from 2001, so probably predates that "little 9/11 thing". I think one of the reasons Islam is seen as "fastest growing" is that it is starting from a larger base than many of those that are growing faster. It is rapidly becoming the second-largest religion (not including atheism) in America. I suspect part of the growth -- as well as the growth of Hindus and Sikhs -- has been fueled by immigration and jobs (H1B visas), but there have also been a number of converts.
And I am not saying this because I am a Muslim "spin doctor". I am a Baha'i. I am just noting what I have observed. I have also researched global growth using Encyclopedia Brittanica for a discussion on another forum some years ago. .

The site you post is so biased! However, the part i'd like to understand is why the fact that Islam is still growing bothers you? Are the numbers going up due to converts or population increase? Pray tell.

Atheism is not a religion, its a non-belief, so doesn't even fit into the category of religion.
By the way atheists are constantly insulting anyone of faith, its bound to become more "acceptable", especially for those whose main concern in life is how others view them, so they can pretend they are more intelligent than religious people, in essence making themselves feel superior. We see it here all the time.

"Five to 6 million strong, Muslims in America already outnumber Presbyterians, Episcopalians, and Mormons,
and they are more numerous than Quakers, Unitarians, Seventh-day Adventists, Mennonites, Jehovah's
Witnesses, and Christian Scientists, combined. Many demographers say Islam has overtaken Judaism as the
country's second-most commonly practiced religion; others say it is in the passing lane." JOHAN BLANK,
USNEWS (7/20/98)
Islam in the United States is not solely the province of immigrants from North Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. The largest and fastest-growing ethnic group of American Muslims is African Americans, whose estimated numbers range between 1.3 million and 2 million. Most, by the way, are Sunni Muslims and not followers of Minister Louis Farrakhan's racially exclusive Nation of Islam.
