How do you wire a mono jack so that it cuts out the speaker?

I am installing a mono headphone jack into the speaker mic of an old Motorola 2 way radio. I want the speaker to cut out when I plug in the headphone. Do I need the 2 or 3 lead jack, and how do I wire it?

You need a 2 conductor jack with a third connection which is normally contacted to the tip of the jack when no plug is inserted. This third tab should go to the internal speaker, the main(tip) to the output of the radio. Hope this helps.
