wrap him up a surprise anonymous present of breath freshener

Try a different tack, but subtlely - next time he comes near enough to cause what I commonly refer to as 'the boak' just lean slightly back and say something along the lines of 'whoa there, who was a bit heavy on the garlic last night then?!' not too loud but. If he says 'I didn't have garlic' just say 'oh I see' and let the tumbleweed moment pass just long enough for him to get this hint.

My boyfriend suggests you get the biggest, scariest man/woman in the office to just plain tell him his breath stinks.

Hope it helps.

Simple: Get some breath mints and without anyone seeing you leave them in his office, or inbox, or by his office door (if locked) in an envelope. As sneaky and bad as it feels you will have a thousand cheering people behind you.

He'll get the message

Explain to him that you don't feel confortable with him getting so close. maybe he will get the hint. I knew someone who's breath reeked of dog-poo, I just told them straight and they were seriously offended, so don't make the same mistake. Talk to your colleagues, maybe you can come up with a group solution.

difficult one, as he is your boss. I'd actually talk to HIS boss and ask him to broach the subject with your boss - your boss will take it easier if fresh breath advice comes from his own superior rather than someone who works for him! Ask the senior boss to keep your name out of it, as well.
Good luck.

Why is this in engagements and weddings?

Keep a pack of mints at the side of your desk, when he comes over to explain things to you offer him one. Keep it up and do it everytime. He might take the hint!

Difficult. Perhaps just ask him to back off a little coz his breath smells. He cant sack you for that;

Carry breath mints and casually offer him one while eating one yourself. Keep repeating til he gets the message - shouldn't take long...
