Look at its cere which is right above its beak. If its a boy it will be blue or lavender. If its a girl it will be pink or tannish or sometimes even light blue. Sometimes the color can be wrong because of genetics, so if you want a definate answer, take it to the vet for a blood test.

For a parakeet check over the beak. Males have a blue-light purple line above the beak and females have a white or pink line.

Well, we have cockitiels so this may not work but give it a try. Look underneath the tail and if it has a nice design(mostly dots or stripes) then it's a female. If the bottom is plain and has nothing on it then it's a male. Come to think of it I used to have a parakeet.

Here ya go----Just above the bill on these birds is a small patch of hard skin. On MALE budgies/parakeets the color is blue. On the females it is a pale tan.

With an adult bird, you should check the colour of the waxy cere (the bare wax-like patch) around the nostrils. An adult male bird will show a blue cere; and a female will show a brown one. With a youngster, the male's cere is pink and the female's is bluish-white.

well i had a cocatail(i dont know how you spell it), but when we took it to the vet, he put his pinky finger between its legs to feel its pelvis bone, and if there is space in between the bones, its a boy, and if there isnt any space between, then it is a girl. try that to see if it works, i hope that helps.
