1) Don't eat too much bleached flour, white sugar, chocolate, anything with non complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates are found in whole wheat products (such as breads and pastas), and do not cause sugar rushes and subsequently sugar crashes the way many sweets do. Keeping your blood sugar consistent has been known to help in up to 70% percent of cases of depression.
2) Stay hydrated. It sounds simple, though it can be difficult to remember. If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated. Early-stage symptoms of dehydration also include irritability and mood swings.

a good health diet, besides diet a big help can be getting a pet. A pet can be a great help for people depressed. Try a dog or a cat there are many many excellent lovable dogs and cats that you can adapt from a animal shelter. Think about it it really worth it.
Also try to volunter can also be a great help

Brazil nuts contain serotonin - three a day are supposed to keep winter blues away and presumably can't hurt with more severe depression.

ive heard that foods containing vitamin b-12 might help, its worth a shot, or you can get a supplement at the store

I know how you feel.As,I have had Depression for years.I don't know of any foods to help it.But,i do know that Sweets and beer/drinking can actually make it worse.But,Best of luck to you.

chocolate. it physically makes you happier, at least for a while. something about endorphins. though, if you're talking clinically depressed, sorry, can't help ya.
