If it's just red, you'll prolly be straight the day after tomorrow. If it's peeling, add another two days. If it's blistered, you're in for a week.
Or life.

Sunburn is a visible reaction of the skin's exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, the invisible rays that are part of sunlight. Ultraviolet rays can also cause invisible damage to the skin. Excessive and/or multiple sunburns cause premature aging of the skin and lead to skin cancer.
UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and can produce tanning without burning. You should note that too long of exposure to UVA can also cause a sunburn.
UVB rays can also cause a tan but are the primary cause of sunburn and skin cancer. Melanin in the epidermis absorbs UVA and UVB radiation, thus reducing the amount of radiation absorbed by basal cells and squamous cells.
A sunburn happens when skin is damaged primarily by overexposure to UVB radiation. The reddening of the skin is due to injury to blood vessels close to the skin's surface which causes them to become swollen. The reddening may begin a few minutes after exposure and can worsen over the following 24 - 72 hours.
Home treatment measures may provide some relief from a mild sunburn.
Use cool cloths on sunburned areas.
Take frequent cool showers or baths.
Apply soothing lotions that contain aloe vera to sunburned areas. Topical steroids (such as 1% hydrocortisone cream) may also help with sunburn pain and swelling. Note: Do not use the cream on children younger than age 2 unless your doctor tells you to.
A sunburn can cause a mild fever and a headache. Lie down in a cool, quiet room to relieve the headache. A headache may be caused by dehydration, so drinking fluids may help.
There is little you can do to stop skin from peeling after a sunburn—it is part of the healing process. Lotion may help relieve the itching.
Keep in mind that it may take four to six hours after sun exposure to know the full extent and severity of sunburn. If blisters form, don't break them. They contain your natural body fluid (serum) and are a protective layer. Also, breaking blisters slows the healing process and increases the risk of infection. If needed, you can lightly cover blisters with gauze.
Within a few days, your body will start to heal itself by getting rid of the top layer of damaged skin — the "peeling" process. Following this process, your skin may have an irregular color and pattern for a time.
Seek medical care for sunburn if:
Severe sunburn covers a large portion of your body with blisters
Sunburn is accompanied by a high fever or extreme pain
Severe sunburn doesn't respond to at-home care within a few days

It depends on how bad they are, and also your complexion. For example, someone who is very pale is more likely to get the worse sunburns, which take longer to heal. If you tan easily, your burn fades into your tan fairly quickly.
If you are putting ointment on it, that will make it go away sooner than if you just let it be.
If it is a mild to severe burn, the redness will go away, but pain, itchiness, and/or peeling will still occur after the redness has stopped.
