I have heard that they are good at cooking the food but that after a while the fan gets clogged up and stops working. What is your experience of them? If the bit about the fan is true, do you know if it is easy to remedy?

I've had no problem with mine, it cooks at a lower temperature and faster than a non fan oven.

Buy the best you can afford, in my experience cheap is usually expensive in the long term. A good quality one, looked after and kept clean will give many years of service.

I had one for years, and the fan is working OK, never had a problem with it, because it blows - not sucks, air from the bottom of the oven to middle of the oven. forcing the warmer air down. This mechanism to ensure the temperature of the oven is even throughout, rather than the traditional type of oven where the top part of the oven is hotter than the bottom.

This feature is particularly useful when batch baking as all the food can be cooked at the same time without having to swap the oven shelves around for even cooking.

They take some getting used too, in that the time for cooking is reduced by about 10 to 15%.

WE have had a Belling Fan oven for 6 years now. All I had to replace was the bulb in the oven!

Cooks really well. gets cleaned every 6 months or so or if I burn something!!!

Just make sure you get a half decent one, don't skimp, pay as much as you can afford. We paid £700 for ours, still works as if a day old, and looks great too

PS. I'm a qualified baker and find this type of oven mcuh better to cook with due to eveness of temp inside the oven, Be wary of things cooking quicker than in a gas one. I tend to turn down temp a few degrees just to be on the safe side

I have had fan ovens for years .the fan has never let me down. You have to reduce the cooking time slightly but you will soon get used to this.I would not go back to an ordinary oven the temperature is even throughout the fan oven and you can utilise the space so much better.Trying to cook several things at once in my sons oven over xmas was a nightmare compared to using my own fan oven.

not had the success i used to have ,(baking cakes and Yorkshire puddings)since moving to a chalet and having to use callor gas. I have been cooking for nearly 60 years and am now having the first poor results and yes,it is a fan assisted oven.Wish i could have ordinary gas but cant. I havent heard of fans getting clogged up ,surely that can only happen if you cook things too high and fat splashes around

They have always seemed to work fine for me. They do not all distribute the heat completely evenly though.
To find out any hot spots try putting a raw poppadom on each shelf. Where it puffs first is the hot spot etc.

I have two of them. six years and two years old. ( Sounds like kids, doesn't it?). Never had any problems with either. They ARE good. You don't have to wait to warm up, ckg temp is lower and food gets cooked evenly all over. Go for it!

It's simple - clean your oven.
