The best thing to do is...
Triple your fluid intake...This waters down the virus & helps your body get back on top of the virus.
Take paracetamol EVERY 4 hours...Follow the directions on the box.
Keep warm & rested.
You could also try one of the cold & flu remedies like Lemsip capsules...They help keep symptoms at bay ...Dont take paracetamol if you are using any cough/cold/flu remedies that already contain paracetamol.
In future to prevent colds call into your herbalists & try a regular vitamin C tablets.
You can also buy tablets to boost your immune system. They are available in health stores & they are called Echinacea.
Get well soon

A cold and the flu are very different although people talk as if they are versions of the same thing.
A cold usually lasts for about 3 days. Starts with a runny nose, cough and sneezing. Then your nose gets blocked.
Paracetemol (its in lemsip too so dont take more than 4grams in a day) helps and you should get lots of fluids. Some people think that vitamin C helps but research does not support this. (vitamin C in your diet reduces the risk of getting a cold to begin with as it boosts the immune system but once youve got it, it does not help)
The flu is a different virus altogether, no runny nose or cough* but aching all over and headaches and you really cannot go to work or get out of bed. Sometimes you get dizzy and have a high fever. Paracetemol helps to bring down fever and as a pain killer but brufen may be better for pain.
Strepsils are good for a throat infection but not laryngitis as they dry out the vocal cords and what you need is frequent drinks.
You sound like you have had the flu except that a cough and breathing problems are not part of the flu *unless you have now got a chest infection.
Have you got a productive cough? If you are coughing up green stuff you might have a secondary infection and need antibiotics.
Good luck!

I gotta tell you I couldn't believe my friend when I told him I was right in the middle of one of those full blown cold/flu. I had it all the works...aches,pains,couldn't breathe, wheezy sneezy...you get the point. He told me to go to the vitamin section at Wal-Mart and buy the 100mg.Ester-C vitamins. He then told me to take 10 of them right away. (Be forewarned these things are as bis as horse pills but the way I was feeling, I would have tried anything. He then said wait about 4 hours and take 10 more. (Now it is a vitamin so I wasn't too concerned about overdosing) Than he said take 5 more right before I went to bed. Believe it or not ,by noon of the next day I was completely cured of all symptoms, (although another warning.... I spent alot of time on the throne if you catch my drift...which isn't a bad thing when you're sick.) Now anytime I feel anything like a cold and/or flu approaching I'll take a couple of these Ester-C's for maintenenace. I haven't had a cold/flu since. My wife swears by this product called "Airborne", it's like an alka-seltzer tablet, I have trouble drinking that stuff but I was incredulous abouth the Ester-C and swear by it still. Good Luck ,hope you feel better soon, it sucks being sick!

I've had Herpes problem over 3 years. I tried everything, of course I went to the DR. about a hundred times, probably not that many, but it sure seems like it. It never did any good for long and caused all kinds of other issues having to do with taking too many antibiotics. It wasn't until I stumbled upon the information on this site
( http://tinyurl.com/OneMinuteHerpesCureOfficial ), that my life changed completely. I'm feeling so much better now and all of my
symptoms are totally gone. I haven't had an outbreak since using that info.
Best news: It works even if you’ve already blown hundreds or even thousands of dollars on conventional herpes medication
without significant relief…even if you’ve been suffering from herpes for years…and even if your virus is currently in hiding
and your doctor claims nothing can reach it.
I know it can work miracles for you if you just let it.

After a lot of research I decided to try to follow this method
http://tinyurl.com/OneMinuteHerpesCureOfficial
The book details a unique method of actually killing viral pathogens responsible for the herpes virus as well as a quick and
natural method for healing herpes blisters. After reading the book and taking action in just two days the blisters were gone. I haven't had an outbreak in 2 years.
Herpes is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI). There are 2 types of herpes, Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) and Herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2). The symptoms for HSV-1 normally occur around the mouth while the symptoms for HSV-2 occur around the genitals. Nevertheless, both types of herpes can be transmitted to the genital and mouth areas. Herpes is often spread through sores.
Most people often experience some form of sensation, including itching and tingling before they observe anything on the skin
Modern medicine is mostly all about maintenance of the disease because big pharmaceutical companies are calling the shots.
Hooking people on pharmaceuticals means recurring money the big drug companies. They, in turn, pay the doctors to keep
writing prescriptions ?Don?t look for a real help here. Good luck!

Happy New Year to you too
It seems you are doing just about every thing right, with one exception that you say you have gone back to work still feeling rotten. Dear dear you will only pass what ever you have to your work mates people you travel with. I don't mean to give you a lecture, by your letter you seem a sensible person, but you seem to be suffering from a terrible dose of the flu and to get better perhaps you should have spent longer ar home. As you will know being weak you are open to catch a further dose of flu and all the rest of the viruses that is going around.
But I hope sincerely you get well soon I have been there as well
Good luck for 2007..
ps stay out of crowded places there is more chance of catching more with all the sneezing ect.

The best thing is to try and stay at the same constant temperature- staying in a bedroom will help this and mean that other people's risk of catching it is lessened.
You'll also find that cold air works wonders. I find even a short walk clears my chest cause it forces the lungs to work harder and it then gets rid of any rubbish built up in the lung itself.
Fluids are also necessary. If you can, try drinking chicken or a good vegtable soup, and also drinks such as tea and hot chocolate (chocolate stimulates the immune system) but not caffeine cause it contains too much cafffeine. Also ensure that you eat regularly and good portions.
You can only continue with your present medication and just rest. If it does continue for a long time then it may be the sign of a more serious health problem such as an immune deficiency.

Try beechams for cold and flu the honey and lemon one is pretty good, or just plain lemon...they worked a charm for me.
Get plenty of rest and planty of fluid also. Along with the beechams you could also try putting some olbas oil (not too much or it makes the symptoms seem worse) into a large bowl of boiling hot water put a towel over your head and place your face about 10-15 cms away from the hot water in the bowl (ensure that the towel prevents the steam escaping)and inhail the aroma of the olbas oil.... the mixture of hot water and the scent of the olbas oil helps to clear the nasal passages and gives the feeling of a clearer head, you can repeat this a few times during the day.
Please excuse my instructions for the olbas oil I am not sure if it is clear, but the instructions may be on the olbas oil bottle. Take care, and I hope you get well soon.

There has been some last flu's going around, and as it is summer here (Aussie) can make the flu feel ten times worse.
May I suggest you keep warm and fluids up, and also try some echinacea tablets, as they reduce the length of the flu.
For sore throats and coughs, I use a home made hot drink using;
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup orange juice
1 cup lemon aid
2 teaspoons honey
2 tablespoons brandy.
Mix juices and lemon aid, heat over stove to just about to boil, remove from heat, and add honey and brandy. Take sips while still hot.
For sore throat
1/3 lemon juice
1/3 orange juice
2 teaspoons honey
1 tablespoon brandy
Mix until honey is dissolved, sip to ease sore throat, usually handy at night when in bed.
Good luck and hope you recover soon!

Hi! I know what your going through as I also have the flu/cold and a terrible earache! The best thing to do would be:
1. Eat and drink as many hot things as you can.
2. Stay away from dairy products as they make your nose runny!
3. Keep yourself warm
4. Get some Vicks (Vaporub)
5. Get 2 teaspoons of that and put it in some very hot water (not boiling) and inhale for 15 minutes.
Get Well Soon!!

Real flu lasts weeks. The word flu gets bounded around so much that even the slightest sniffle is 'flu'. That pisses me off. I had flu last year for almost a month and ended up in hospital.
You need hot lemon to drink and a herbal pill called echinacea. Think that's how it it spelt! Paracetemol is really the only thing you can take and all the remedies contain pretty much just that anyway.
Hope you feel better soon x
