I had a root canal 10 years ago and never went back and had a crown put on. It has been filled. My tooth has recently broken on both sides. It does not hurt and I am eager to get it fixed. What are my options now that it has been so long ago? Can they repair it or will it have to be pulled?

I said cracked but, pieces are actually breaking off little by little.

See a Dentist - Definately. Modern methods can restore function and appearance of almost any tooth. Cost is the primary factor, and insurance is helpful.

Waiting just allows the unprotected tooth to deteriorate. Since the nerve is removed there should be no serious pain.

Often the enamel sparates from the root and breaks off when a root canal is not finished. If the root is still in healthy bone and the gum is attached then a crown can be put on and last for a while.

If the crack is too deep the tooth can be removed and an implant put in. This is a surgical procedure, but it is quite common these days. Implants are minor miracles but can cost thousands of dollars.

Waiting for months or years is the only wrong thing you can do. Find a dentist you trust and get started on it.

That depends on the nature of the crack. The only portion of a cracked tooth that can be repaired is that part above the gum line! Some categories of cracked tooth can be saved and some cannot. The real difficulty for the dentist is trying to determine the category of crack the tooth has. Since these teeth usually remain intact, and since the crack is not visible, it can be nearly impossible for the dentist to make this decision for the patient. Whenever we are dealing with a cracked tooth, the patient must understand that whatever treatment the dentist prescribes, and no matter how hard he tries, the tooth may still be lost eventually! Repair of any tooth thought to be cracked is always risky, and no guarantees can be made about the outcome.

this happens to a tooth where the life supply has been ripped out of it; then the crowns break along with the remainder of the tooth; if there is enough left they can repost and crown again or they will pull and then look for a bridge which now destroys the 2 teeth next to it in order to fix the empty hole; dental implant of the one missing tooth; root canals kill the tooth; no longer blood supply to it ; it weakens with time and ends up where you are almost each and every time; the longer you can keep life in the tooth, the strength remains; same old path with each and every dentist; guess it pays their bills

hye,
it was not good on your part that u never went back to dentist .u should also thank god that it did not hurt for 10 long years .u should go back to your dentist immediately for a check up . i am not sure whether your root canal treatment is still ok . but your dentist will only tell you . if everything goes well then you should go for a crown .
