First of all, depending on how old your chihuahua puppy is along with the size of his ears will explain why they are floppy. Assuming you got him from a reputable breeder (papers etc), than he his around 12 weeks old and thus his ears should be errect by now. Moreover, he may or may not have come from someone who breeds quality dogs (or is reputable for that matter)

There are multiple types of chihuahuas, but only one current correct head type. he prefered type is the appledome, but there is also a deer type chihuahua. The appledome refers only to the head type and not the body type. Any breed has different types and every breeder has preferences, but some types are more correct than others. He could also have the correc head structure but a longer muzzle and less stop (the stop is located between the eyes where the muzzle and skull connect; with a correct chihuahua head, the angle when viewed from the side should be 90 degrees).

Oh and one more thing, there is no such thing as teacup chihuahua. For the show ring, chihuahuas need to be under 6 pounds.

If you send me a picture, I can better help you determine this.

If he is long haired, or has long haired in the family, he will have a longer, more tapered snout. My grandmother's pure bred long haired chihuahua had one. The short haired version doesn't have as small a snout as most people think. From the front it looks much shorter than from the side. His head may have to grow into his nose.

If the puppy isn't very old, the tips of the ears will droop over. If you are talking hound dog floppy, then that's not normal. How reputable is this breeder? Did you see both parents and their papers? You may want to check this breeder out. You should be able to get information on whether any complaints have been filed against them by checking your local SPCA, shelter, or animal control.

Hi
It depends on whether the breeder is honest or not. All breeds vary, so it may be a pure breed. However you may have been sold a poor specimen of the breed. If the breeder sold it as a show dog, then go back and discuss it with them. If it was sold as a pet, then don't worry as it will not affect the dog's health.

All breeders have some pupppies that do not come up to the standard, it is by choosing the best dogs for breeding that the breed is improved. The breeder will sell the breeding and showing "rejects" for pets.

If the nose is not as short as it should be, then that will not change. The ears may well straighten, as some "go up" later than others. They all start out floppy. How old is the pup?

The pup could also be a mix, but there is no easy way of telling that without DNA tests.

You have an Apple head Chi and then there's the Deer head chi's.The Deer head has the longer nose and the Apple head has a short stubby nose.Don't forget you have the teacup chi which is very small with a short nose.I have one that's 7 years old and he is a Deer Head. When we first got him he had floppy ears until he was about 5-8 months old they started to perk up,he is fawn in color now he has a bunch of grey/white and fawn in color, very fistey.

One standard, one type. There are well bred and badly bred however. Looks like you bought the latter.

It means that it's CRAP,whether or or not it's pure bred.

WHERE'S the AKC REGISTRATION???

There are *2* COATS allowed-smooth & long.
Didn't you RESEARCH ***FIRST***?

The only 2 "types" are QUALITY & CRAP!

TAPE the ears & they *may* stand!

why on earth did you buy this pup if you didn't think it was purebred? if he's a pup it's possible for the ears to still stand up later, as for the nose i'd have to see it to tell you.
