It is hard enough to make a marriage work when you know your partner, and love them..I cannot imagine trying to have one arranged..........

its the culture we're brought up in. this arranged marriage concept is still happening in many parts of the world, especially at the more conservative areas/ tribes within a country. at the same time, love marriages are also happening.
arranged marriages work in a sense that when your parents look out for possible suitors, they tend to choose in accordance to the compatibility of the 2 families' financial status and livelihood, instead of whether their child would get along with the other person. it works because it's a practise in their culture, and everyone do the same. put this in somewhere like carlifornia where arranged marriage is ancient- it would be almost unacceptable wouldn't it? likewise, bring love marriages to the area where arranged marriage is practised. it'll become a taboo, an offence, like say, the defiance towards parents that could possibly call for punishment. so, the world hasn't gone bad for arranged marriage setup, it's merely the culture where you dwell in.

I don't know all the crap about arranged or love marriage. the boys are the same and the girls are the same. if you get a good partner and are willing to sacrifice, love, trust, respect etc. for your partner then, the marriage will be successful. If you are petty, cheat, selfish, doubtful etc. the marriage will not be successful whether arranged or love.

The world and society have changed and we must change with them. I'm sure you can think of some other things that have worked in the past but are not used anymore.

Its better to have a choice. Does your parents pick your clothes for u? If yes, do u like the clothes they bought for u? Can u depend on them if they pick ur spouse for u just based on the clothes they picked for u? Furthermore, u wld wanna get to know ur partner before the big thing.

it is according to your mind
some people like to use their mind when choosing someone to be her/his second part
it's a good idea to use your mind in such marriages because it will continue forever
