Because we no longer saw any reason to stay there. The base was costing us money and providing us no real benefit.

And you have to admit that Iceland was not a very reliable ally.

No, it was an easy place to make troop cuts. Rumsfeld needed to achieve something in his reorganization of the military. Iceland was strategic in WW2 and the cold war. Nowadays the Hots spots are some where more hot. Plus they're a NATO member, maybe they can police themselves...they do drink a lot of COla though Im not making that up.

I hadn't heard that, that's to bad. Kef was a nice short deployment. Across the runway was the best AF chow hall I ever ate at.

The mission there was mainly for stopping (slowing down) the Russians coming over the cap to attack Europe during the cold war. Since that threat is basically gone, no need to stick around...

i think of the common American does not understand they are construction an empire. there isn't any Emperor. All they have is important companies that have become extra useful than some countries. all of them perform under the comparable rule that's to maximize revenue at all human beings elses rate even with atmosphere or something extremely. it is the reason they don't desire an Emperor and his advisors to sit down down around a table and are available up with dastardly plans and schemes. The dastardly plan is named capitalism. the plenty are deluded with the belief of democracy and freedom. it is an phantasm. it is not attainable to have democracy or freedom interior the present economic device. the way money works prevents freedom or democracy.
