I'm sure you can get a kids bed that has higher sides to keep the guy from falling...I really don't know how old a kid should be before sleeping in a bed but one seems young...you may want to check a parenting book or website on when it is appropriate to stop using a crib.

I am a little shocked. He is still a baby. It's a little early to "make a man out of him" don't you think? One year olds have commonly have a lot of fears, now that their world is opening up so rapidly. My oldest developed a unreasonable fear of water at that age, baths were out of the question. So we took showers together. I think she must've got some water up her nose! ( Do some serious thinking about why he might be crying. Is he feeling safe and secure? Is he teething? Did he have a hard day (learning all that new stuff) Do you work? Aren't home a lot? Could he be afraid you'll be gone if he closes his eyes? Figure out what's going on for him. Try reading "What to Expect, the Toddler Years." All the 19th century stuff about letting him cry forever makes everyone unhappy. Nobody ever said kids are easy, right?

I just put my 16 month old in a twin bed..we put the mattress on the floor with pillows on the floor if she rolls out(which hasn't happened yet) she would roll onto something soft. My girl moved alot in her crib but pretty much stays in the same place when in her new bed. She sleeps much better in the big girl bed than she did in her crib. Here is a link at target for railing to put on a twin bed. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/602-0653738-5450207?asin=B0002JA4XC&AFID=Nextag&LNM=B0002JA4XC|Secure_Comfort_Double_Bed_Rail&ref=tgt_adv_XSN10001 hope that helps

you have to keep him in the crib, he is only 12 months old, wait until he is about 21/2 or 3 years old and get him a toddler bed.

put a crib or twin mattress-no box spring or bed frame- directly on the floor of your room. if he falls out he won't get hurt. he really is a baby and it is normal for babies to want to sleep with their mommies, it makes them feel safe and loved. after he sleeps for a while on his mattress in your room you can slowly move it out of your room and into his. let him have a stuffed toy to snuggle. i wouldn't worry about this for a couple more years though.

Just buy one of the bed guards so you don't have to worry about him falling out. That will ease your worries on that subject.
As for getting him to bed on his own that's up to you and what method you want to use. There are many...we used the "cry it off" technique when our son was a year old. We made sure his room was safe and put him to bed and he cried and we let him until he went to sleep. A lot of parents can't and won't use this method because it seems cruel but we saw it as a way to help him sleep independently and just kept that in mind even though it was hard to hear him cry for us. It worked for us, within 2 weeks he just went to bed on his own without any crying or difficulty...he simply knew it was time for bed and went to sleep. He is now almost 3 and we put him to bed in his new queen size bed without guards and he goes to sleep at 9pm and wakes up at about 7:30am. At nap-time he goes to sleep without any problems and sleeps for about 3 hours. He is still affectionate and adorable and I think we made the right choice for him and us. Good luck.

Get a bed and then find the gaurd rails, some beds come with them. when its time for him to go to bed, get a chair and sit next to him, dont let him climb up on you, have him lay down and wait until he goes to sleep. Hope this helps

hi there, when our daughter turned one we removed one side from her cot and just put pillows on the floor next to her.. she fell out a few times and of course we chuckled when we saw her fast asleep half hanging out of the cot...but they get the hang of it or get a barrier for the side of his bed/cot... give him some of his fav toys to take to bed and make it a game.. we would say to our daughter "if she falls asleep before snow white she can have a treat in the morning...make it fun... good luck on that one
