thx

It was used in attempts to prove that marijuana leads people to psychiatric problems.

@ Steve T
I agree. Lots of mentally ill people must be in those churches. I and my friends were some of them.
one friend shot his dad, and then OD'd
One turn to drugs and rape
etc
I was lucky, early on i just started going to a smaller church (still pentecostal somewhat) but with older people with kids.

I was never into the drug thing. But if the topic came up, some christian will always have this myth to pass around. And that wasnt just in the pentecostal church I went to either.

The 90% figure is a gross exaggeration. However, the scientific evidence that excessive cannabis use can have a causal relationship with some mental health problems is incontrovertible.

People trying to make religious or "moral" points should be ignored in this debate. Look at the science, but look at it critically. In particular watch for the conflation of "drug induced psychosis" with "schizophrenia". They are not the same thing. Also, do not assume that psychotic disorders are the only serious mental health problems. Affective disorders such as major depression are a much more common consequence of cannabis overuse. Distinguishing cause and effect is a significant methodological problem, but there is enough science to place cannabis in a causative role.

The majority of people who smoke cannabis do not suffer significant mental health consequences. However, a small number do, and we should not ignore this fact in defending cannabis use against the hysterical and counterproductive overreaction known as the "war on drugs".

I never heard that at all not in any church I ever attended from the 1950's on up to 2000 when I left Christianity. I think many people with mental illness may do drugs of some kind or drink, but that is because they are trying to deaden the pain. I think it is an exageration to say 90 percent do this. I know a lot of people who should be in psychaitric hospitials, but they choose church instead. The Pentecostal churches attract the mentally ill for some reason. I know because I spent several years in these churches and I know may who need to be hospital;ized, but are going to Pentecostal churches instead. Yes they are a pain in the neck because they think their voices are God or angels talking to them.

You need to move, the stuff you hear in your neighborhood would leave me to believe that most of your neighbors have had a few to many tabs of paper acid. Get out see the real world, it really is interesting, and no Christians with throw into the stocks for being an Atheist either!

Do Christians still pass out Chick Tracks? "The Curse of Baphomet" and "Dark Dungeons were my favorites.

I'm 50. I don't know many people who haven't at least tried pot. Most of them are very normal.
