she is a female 3 and half year old cocker spaniel/cavalier mix she has been coughing like a person her whole life we checked with the vet but she says there is nothing wrong with her she seems to space out alot and just a little mental is she retarted in some sort of way?

It sounds like her breathing is blocked in some way...but you have had her checked with a vet? I would almost be inclined to take her to another, for a second opinion. Obviously, that is up to you...I know vet bills are not cheap.
Have you had her dewormed? Was her throat x-rayed to see if she might have something caught in there--even since she was very young? I know that that is not that likely..but its only a thought. My parents had a dog that had a cough that developed over time (he was old)..and it was related to his heart-I think. I can't remember the condition's name...but it was related to age. Your dog is still young. I wish you luck on finding out what is wrong with her...take her into someone else, just for your own sanity. They might not find anything.

did you do a chest x-ray. i've never heard of coughing as a sign of mental illness.

umm maybe u should take her to another vet...my dog one night starting coughing like that and we took him to the hospital...he died the next day...turnied out he had bronchitis... :(
