Sorry Chris, food IS inanimate.
And sorry to the othe answerer, but the word is inanimate, NOT inanimated - and it means something that's not living, or that doesn't move...(therefore including food!)
As for what non-food object I'd eat, there are a few kinds of lip-gloss that smell so yummy I'm always tempted to just bite in to them!

I would eat a cloud. I always want to eat a cloud and to jump on one, roll around in one...anytime I fly. They look unbelievably safe and soft and sweet and like they would melt in ones mouth.
