No. Absolutely not Staffordshire Bull Terriers are the softest sweetest dogs you could ever have. They are really playful and are the best dogs with children. I have a staffy myself and she is the best dog I have ever had, alot of my friends also have staffys and they have never caused any problems or been nasty. The owners/trainers should be the ones to blame for nasty dogs because if the dogs were trainedproperly then they wouldnt behave badly also children should be trained on how to behave with dogs to. The answer to your question is no theyre not and never will be on the dangerous dog list. All people who think they are or should be should get educated because staffys are the best dogs in the world!!!

Staffordshire bull terriers can be the most loving dogs out when there trained properly you get so much love from them and such loyal dogs.

It all boils down to the owners and the way in witch the dog is treated and bought up, a owner should take responsibility for the dogs actions as its them who teaches the dog whats right and wrong.

Saw this on the news last night - they were talking about the dangerous dogs act after the story about the little girl that died. Pitt Bull Terriers are on the dangerous dogs list (and that is what killed the little girl). Staffordshire Bull Terriers are not.

No it isn't (not in the UK anyway) and neither should it be. The Dangerous Dogs Act has proved that breed specific legislation does not work. A properly bred Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a wonderful dog, it is the morons who own and breed them as macho dogs who should be on a dangerous list.

No, seems like everyone answering this thinks it was a staffordshire bull terrier that attacked the little girl but it wasnt, people need to get their facts straight, Staffordshire Bull terriers are actually one of the soppiest harmless dogs you can get, but the answerers of your question are tarring them with the same brush as the other dangerous pitbulls etc.
If they were dangerous they would be on the dangerous dog list but theyre not.

What needs to happen is there should be a 'dangerous owners' list instead. All dogs COULD be dangerous.

Dog owners need licensing instead - you should prove you know how to keep a dog, train it, exercise it, ensure it has adaquate time and space. Then every tool who thinks it looks cool won't be able to keep great dogs like bull terriers, rottweilers or dobermans and they won't be considered dangerous.

I know people who have staffies that are as sweet as pie, but I also know people who have had poodles which would be considered dangerous. Restrict ownership is the most sensible way forward.

Certainly Not!
We have always owned this breed, they are reknown for ther affection towards people, especially children.
All dogs regardless of breed can be dangerous in the wrong hands.
Breeders need to educate members of the public where to buy well bred health tested pups...
We need to avoid BYB who give little thought into breeding, fail to test for conditions known within a breed, and are only interested in the money such a litter will produce.
Good reputable breeders do not make money from breeding, they have good homes waiting for any surplus pups they breed.
The media ALWAYS get the breed of dog wrong when there is an attack, there will always be a backlash on the breed.
PUNISH THE DEED,NOT THE BREED!!

No, the staff is not on the dangerous dog list nor do i believe it needs be. i think what we need is to create a dangerous owners list! ANY dog or pet has the ability to turn nasty if triggered, unfortunately for the staff and Pitt bull breeds of dog they are very fashionable amongst some of the not so mature members of society who often think its cool to train these dogs to be aggressive. We've all seen em. unfortunately this gives bad press to the breeds as a whole. Brain dead idiots who think its cool to train these dogs to fight and be intimidating are ruining the future of these dogs. it's these ort of morons that should be kept away from society, not the poor animals who have the misfortune to be under there distinct lack of care. i have a staffy, she is good with kids, dogs, cats and people in general, this does not mean in different hands she would not have turned out different. i think we need to see tighter regulations on who can actually keep any type of animals in their care and higher penalties for those who neglect the animals in their charge.

PITBULLS.. or RELATED BREEDS ARE NOT DANGEROUS. as far as i'm concern... the dog behaves however the owner treats/lets him behave.. or the way the trainer teaches it. A dog will be a dog. It'll bite or attack when it feels threatened or if shregardless if it's a obedience or very sweet dog. Go watch when good dogs go bad.. haha. Anyway, my boyfriend's pitbull is a sweet heart and i love him very much.. if the county was ever to take him away... i'd be very upset.
P.S.
Not only Pitbulls have lock jaw.. there was a maltese at work that bites and never lets go.

no dog needs to be on the dangerous dog list they need a stupid owner list instead. any dog with teeth can bite and be dangerous. it all depends on how the dog is trained and socialized.

let me tell you a sad but true story. since so many people get a dog because it's cute(and they don't think about cost, proper care, etc..), it needs a home(so we didn't look for a dog that fits our lifestyle or research the breed or the breed mix). and then are oh no he's peeing on my carpet(because you didn't get a crate and work with him), so he goes outside to live (because he's just a bad dog and we can't do anything with him) he's chewing up the yard (because we don't walk him and play with him because he pulls on the leash and nips) so we'll get him a girlfriend(who we don't take to the vet either, and is just as bad as he is) oh she's looking fat (do you think she has worms?) and finally finished by the owner asking a question on yahoo answers (HOW LONG IS THE GESTATION PERIOD FOR MY DOG?????) and no one lived happily ever after.
