It is easy to cut up some veggies on a pot and cook them for a while.

I worked two jobs and went to school full time but it was important to me to have good food at home (when I ate junk my mind did not work as well).

Make big batches of soups or stews and freeze them into individual servings.

For a lot of recipes the majority of the time is the cooking time not the preparation; you can let things cook while you study.

Washing a head of lettuce and opening a can of tuna to go on it takes no time.

Frozen dinners are expensive and not at all satisfying.

CURRIED PUMPKIN AND SWEET POTATO SOUP
1 ½ tsp veg oil
1 tsp garlic
1 cup chopped onion
2 ½ cups chicken stock
8oz (250g) peeled and chopped sweet potatoes
1 cup canned pumpkin
1 ½ tsp curry powder
½ tsp coriander
1 tsp honey
½ tsp ginger
¾ cup (175mL) 2% milk
In non-stick saucepan, heat oil; sauté garlic and onion until softened, approximately 5 minutes.
Add stock. Sweet potatoes, pumpkin, curry, coriander, honey and ginger; reduce heat, cover and simmer until potatoes are tender, approximately 40 minutes.
Purée until smooth. Return to saucepan stir in milk until blended. (If I am feeling lazy I just get out the potato masher and leave the soup chunkier.)

If you just eat those you will be hungry. You're better off making some low fat lentil soups, or eating rice and beans with lots of veggies. Less additives, more filling, and cheaper. Tofu is low-fat and pretty inexpensive as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you should be vegetarian. I'm not. I've just found that the cheapest low-fat meals tend to be made from beans and tofu.

It doesn't take long to make a stir-fry using tofu, frozen veggies and soy sauce. Rice and beans is really fast too. You can make up a big thing of it and keep it in the freezer and then take it out before you want to eat it.

Soups are easy. A bunch of frozen veggies, bouillon or miso paste, beans, lentils, barley, tofu thrown into a pot and brought to a boil. Really easy. I made a huge pot tonight in about 20 mins.

Good luck to you.

Those Lean Cuisines aren't filling at all, you'll be desperate for McDonald's. Just make healthy meals at home. Grill chicken breast with some steamed/grilled veggies on the side. Home-made is healthier than processed, microwavable foods.

Don't buy pre-packaged foods, they are loaded with crap, even if they have reduced calories.

Just eat healthy, whole food - a portion of meat (preferably chicken, turkey or fish) with vegetables and rice is a perfect meal to even out your weight. Go easy on starchy food (breads, crackers, pasta, potatoes etc) and sweets, and eat as much fruit and veg as you can - it fills you up, makes your skin look great, gives you lots of energy.

Another trick is to stagger your meals so you eat most at breakfast, less at lunch, and a light dinner. My mother used to call it "breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper". Eating a lot at night tends to pile on weight.

Good luck!! :)
