Man made laws and beliefs can be changed in time with persistence, time, and consistent complaint. I've seen this when it comes to sex, drugs, money, and many other things.
However, the Word of God does not budge, twist, or adjust itself for anyone, regardless of how unpopular it may be with the masses. People may try to twist the Word, but it remains the same year after year. Also, the author, God, is unphased by those who have rebuttals and philosophical arguments.
I think this is the real reason most people have an issue with the Bible and Belief in God. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be a Christian without giving up SOMETHING you enjoy, or changing something about your lifestyle. People resist change and resent correction.
Heb 13:8, God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Personally, the more the majority attempt to diminish the truth and worth of God's Word, the more convinced I am the Lord is the truth author. I don't understand why a Christian would argue with non-believers.

This message is in response to Dragonlady, it is true, that small changes have taken place in various translations due to language and tiny printing errors. However, the meaning of the scriptures have NOT been changed. So you're not completely accurate on that matter. When you have studied and comapred the Greek, Hebrew, Latin, and other translations, only then will you be able to speak on this topic with accuracy. Again, the essence and meaning of God's Word, has remained in tact since the beginning. Anytime you speak a thought in a different language, it will be presented slightly different, but as long as the meaning is conveyed correctly, and written 99.9% correctly, the original concept and meaning is there.

Hi Yellow, God, Yahweh(from Hebrew), and Jehovah(more common in English after translation) all refer to the same person. This is why it's important to study the entire bible, and compare translations. You're welcome to email me if you'd like more detail. God also referred to himself as "I AM". Too many details to squeeze in this message.

Most people that don't believe in the christian god because they choose not too. There is the whole deal with free will. That's your simple answer. People have other belief systems and those are the ones they choose.

Are you serious? I had to stifle my laughter long enough to click the link to this question, because you are obviously still in the dark about alot of things, sweetheart.
While I respect your devotion to God, as I am a believer myself-the fact remains that the bible has been changed so many times that it BARELY resembles the book as it was originally written. Not only have so many words been changed just from the translation from language to language (which by itself has changed the literal meaning of many individual verses), but it has been edited, censored, and just outright forged by many people over the last few millenia, mostly by the Catholic church. The fact that for thousands of years the contents of the Old Testament were passed down orally before being written in Hebrew should tell you that the word was changed even before it was ever written. Just to give you a little insight if you are interested, you can start by looking on google or wikipedia about a Roman emperor named Constantine-he was the Roman Emperor who did the most damage to the content of the bible, by leaving out almost a dozen "books" and ordering their destruction, simply because he didn't like what they said for political reasons. It was a pagan, not a christian man who got to decide what you are reading today.
It's a good idea, with some good teachings. But it is no longer the word of God as it was intended. There are so many discrepancies and contradictions in what remains, it is too confusing to hold it as an absolute. We are meant to know we shouldn't kill, lie, steal, and all of that stuff-but wouldn't that be obvious even without the bible?

I'm not completely against you. As a christian myself I find the bible very useful to me. It is filled with so much wisdom and guidance However, I don't think it's so much that people have a problem with it-----it's more so how they interpret the bible.
Another problem people have is it's translation.(gGreekversion and Hebrew version)
The bible is the most translated book in the world, and somewhere along the line with translation words don't exactly have the same meaning.. Also take for example this... Why do some bibles refer to god as 'god' or 'lord', but other versions of the bible refer to god as 'Yahweh' or 'Jehovah'. They both read the same passages exactly alike, except for that small distinction... which by the way is no where near small---it is a huge big deal that influences the way people worship...

The prophets wrote the books in the Bible. Why don't you try reading Genesis 1 : 1 -31. It says in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. That's just the very first part. There is more, if you choose. People have a CHOICE with what they do. There is either a Christian, which is non-denominational, or a worldly person. I just wonder who YOU turn to when things get really, really tough? Maybe, when you can't really tell a friend, etc. So you get on the computer and talk to complete strangers, like me for example. A Christian doesn't argue with non-believers. They'll just be there when you fall.

Heb 13:8, God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
True!
But it does not say "the bible"
Sure the bible has not been changed in a few hundred years, but do you have any idea how much it was changed in the past by kings or the high priest's back in the day? I am a christian and love to read the bible, but do not take it as seriously as some might- It is a great "guide" but there is a lot of hogwash in it too that we have to pray for an answer on, but hey, you want to believe a part of the bible that I feel is hog wash in my heart, and it makes you happy and does not hurt you or others around you, then good for you.

I have a problem with the Bible because it will not change to appease reality. A thousand years ago, saying that the universe was created in 6 days by a supernatural force was acceptable because there was no contradictory evidence. Now there is. But the Bible still says the same thing. It's blatantly false, but millions of people must go on believing it because their moral foundations would collapse if they thought the Word of God was any less than 100% literal truth.
Meanwhile, these people gradually come to represent a lower and lower intelligence. How long before the only "true" Christians are those who can trace their family tree in a straight line for three generations?

Great historical novels have also gone unchanged throughout history, however, they are no more reality that the fiction we read today. While the original work may have been "inspired by God," the book was written by man, interpretted by man, translated by man, and ultimately is a creation of man. While it may be an excellent guide for moral "rightness," it certainly should not be used as a foundation of faith. Only a personal relationship with God can define one's religion, spirituality, and faith!

True.......... If the Bible's message is true, people have to make major changes. People don't like change, so they accept anything besides the truth just to avoid the fact that they need to change the way they live. Thats why people go out of their way, and leave all logic, and say things like Jesus just fainted after being stabbed in the heart then went into Egypt, India, or France; or that the angel Gabriel died in his place, and other baseless claims.

I would have even *more* issues with the Bible if it changed to appease current culture. And I don't understand why Christians argue with non-believers either. Neither of us will convince the other, so why not just agree to disagree and move on to other issues?

God's law:
"If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives." Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NIV
Sorry, can't follow that. Never. No way.
