I have problems with the patches staying "stuck" on. They want to keep falling off. Help!

You have been given some great answers but I wanted to comment on your difficulty with keeping the patches on.

If you are receiving the name brand patches the ones that say DURAGESIC. you can call Janssen and they will provide at no cost to you Bio-clusive covers which can be applied over the patch to keep them is place. The number to call is 1-800-janssen or 1-800-526-7736

You can also visit your local drug store and ask for Tegaderm. this is similar to the Bioclusive covers. These were designed to protect an IV site but they can be used to keep the patches in place as well. They are a bit expensive but do work very well.

Hogle is 100% correct. I used the patches too and tried everything to keep them on. My insurance paid for the generic fentanyl patches so I couldn't get the bio patches from the pharmaceutical company. Discovered tegaderm coverings and they were perfect. They keep water out too. I went to www.overstock.com and got my supply in the bulk medical supply section because it was less expensive than the boxes sold in the drugstore -- plus the drugstore never carried the size covering I needed. I also found good medical supply stores online where I could get the larger size to cover all the pain patch.

Good luck!

P.S. Non-chubby people have loads of trouble with them sticking too. I'm surprised they haven't fixed the problem by now.

my husband is on these to always take a shower before applying use on upper chest on either side can also be placed on stomach and upper back but never never place in the same place twice use tape around the edges but not on the whole patch as this will cause the pain meds to go in to fast from the heat use the silk hospital tape can be bought at a pharmacy dont apply lotion this will affect the patch but they work great

the chest, back, flank (sides of the waist), or upper arm in a place where there is no hair

make sure the area is clean and DRY. don't put any lotions or oils in that area prior to applying the patch

once applied-cover patch with palm of your hand and leave it there for at least 30 seconds (the heat from your hand will help the patch stick)

don't use tape to hold patch on-it can irritate your skin

Agree with sunney: upper arms, upper chest, upper back. In order to keep the duragesic patch on, please place a small clear mepilex dressing (available in pharmaceutical supplies) on top of the patch.

Also if hairy, please shave the areas where the patches are placed and please remember to place the patch on clean and dry skin.

Upper arm. Chest or upper back. Some people stick them on their buttocks and sit on them!
