Myth - what makes you gain weight is eating more calories than you are burning.
However...
It has been proven that NOT getting enough sleep will make you gain weight.

it doesn't matter how healthy you eat. I woke up had 2 scrambled eggs water 1 slice of 100 whole grain bread with a slice of ham and 10 almonds to give me energy so I can burn calories faster. 4 hours past I didn't have lunch yet I jumped on the scale and I weighed 1 pound more.one day we gain a pound next day we lose a half a pound next day you gain a pound and so on.we lose we gain we lose we gain. our bodies don't continuously lose each day,. it flexuates.as far as my calorie intake its over 1200 and I watch my sugar intake.pretty well no sugar the most 6 grams.i dotn eat trans fat foods.but I was up all last night I couldn't sleep. sleep is the ticket. to much sleep is not good because that's when you should be eating and burning energy. when you oversleep your body starves and goes into starvation mode. then when you wake from 10 hours sleep and have a small meal you gain a lot of weight. my advise is just screw it. eat whatever you want as long as its not 5 big macs a day. work up a nice sweat maybe 1 1/2 a day and maybe something good will come out of it. the mistakes people make are exercising too much in one day that they are so tired they aren't hungry. so they eat maybe 8 hundred calories a day for example the body goes into a deficit and goes into starvation mode to survive.whatever we do we are $%&@ed

It is true AND false.
Sleeping, per se, is a state of reduced caloric need, but also a state of lowered caloric consumption.
Now, if you sleep a lot and you eat as if you slept 8 hours, you will probably gain weight both because of the caloric surplus and of the fact that sleeping makes you fast, therefore your metabolism diminishes.
On the other hand, if you sleep a lot and you don't eat a lot, you might not gain weight. But if you want to lose weight after few days you won't be able to because too much sleep means too much fasting which in turns implies that your body goes in starvation mode.
Of course if you don't sleep because you are stressed, your stress hormones counteract insuline, and that will fatten you up too.
Thus it's important to understand that sleep isn't "all good" or "all bad", it always depends on the context in which it happens (caloric intake and stress level).
At risk of saying something obvious, 8 hours of sleep are what it takes not to lose weight and not to gain it either.
Remember, studies did NOT show that "sleep is good". They did show that if you don't sleep ENOUGH, you get fat. That does not mean that oversleeping will make you slimmer!!!

It is possible to increase ur weight by sleeping all the time if u wake up, eat and sleep again.
Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span.

I've read recent studies that say not getting enough sleep can lower your metabolism and cause you to eat more and gain weight. I've haven't heard anything about getting too much sleep causing this. Some people who have atypical depressions (particularly those that regularly occur in the winter months) sleep much more than usual, have fatigue and lack of energy and have increased appetite, carbohydrate cravings and weight gain. Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

That is a bunch of garbage. Sleeping alot could be from depression or not doing enough exercise a day, working etc. You could be bored and just not interested in anything. So you choose to sleep.

Actually no, it's the other way around. Not sleeping enough can make you gain weight. You have more time to eat when you are awake.
