It depends what country you live in. In the US, you must be 16 years old to be a student pilot, but you can actually start flying with an instructor at any age. You need a student pilot license to fly by yourself. At age 17, you can get a private pilot license, and then you will need to get instrument and multi-engine ratings. At 18, you can get a commercial pilot license. You will also need to pass medical examinations, starting with an "FAA 3rd Class" which you will need with your student pilot certificate.

Until you are able to take flying lessons, I recommend you get a Flight Simulator for your computer and learn all that you can by playing that. Most new flight simulator programs are quite realistic and this will give you a good head start in your flight training.

Keep an eye on this blog as it will explain everything you need to know in becoming a pilot from your first introductory flight to obtaining your commercial certification. New entries are added weekly. Good luck with the flying!

join the USAF and become a Tactical Airlift pilot. You'll get the experience of you life and the type and time the airlines like to see. Nothing beats TAC Airlift....DO NOT And I'll say it again...DO NOT!!!! Be a fighter, he-lo, or bomber pilot you always regret it.... Good luck and don't ever let someone tell you No

The FARs (the regulations) state that you need 250 hours total time flying. There are other specifications (like several cross-country trips solo and dual, night work, etc.).

First, though, get your private pilot's license. That's where it all starts. Look at aopa.org or faa.gov for additional info.
