He needs to start out by going through the correct jail channels to recieve medical care.
Usually, he will need to request in writing to see a medical doctor. It might take a little bit of time, like a week or so, but he will eventually get to see the doctor. At this time also see if there is any form that he can fill out to approve the jail to get medical records from the inmates personal doctor proving the illness he has.
Then there is the issue of the money. He will have to find out if he will qualify for indigent health care or not. This will not stop him from seeing the doctor, its just that way the county will pay for it instead of the jail.
If he has put in the medical request and they have not had him see the doctor within a reasonable amount of time, say two our three weeks, he needs to file a complaint.
This is where people get it mixed up. There is a difference between a complaint and a grievance. He needs to file the complaint first and have it turned in. The officer or jail administration will talk to him about the complaint and try to get it resolved. Basically, he will tell them that he has requested medical attention for the illness or whatever and has not heard anything back from the medical staff. They will tell him they will talk to medical staff and see about hurrying it along.
If after a week or so he still doesn't hear anything back from the medical people regarding the medical attention that he needs, now is the time to file a grievance.
If the grievance board does not take care of the problem, it would be in the best interest of the inmate to contact his attorney and tell him that he has gone through all the jail channels up through the grievance and still hasn't recieved the attention he needs.
Good luck....

Erik B is right. But make sure all of the proper paperwork is filled out IN ORDER. Ask the infirmary what documents need to be filled out first, and dont skip any steps. This will prolong an aid that you might receive. There are plenty f channels to go through to get aid for terminally ill inmates.

He needs to keep going through the channels at the jail. In the jail I am aquainted with (not as an inmate) they call it flighting a kite. He needs to get a form that allows him to air his grievances. Once that's exhausted and he still hasn't gotten what he needs, he needs to file a writ of habeas corpus with the court to give the judge jurisdiction to order the jail to fulfill his right to medical treatment in jail or to let him out.

I have seen them let men die for lack of medical attention, saying it was to expensive, yet not let the mans family pay for the needed medical ,but, will medicate Illegals all day with the most expensive drugs, some of these people are in for stupid things, one client who died recently had a open beer in a federal park, it cost him his life,

Eric B is right except for one thing. An attorney has to file the Writ of Habeas. If the prisoner filed it himself, there would be no guarantee the Courts would ever see it.

In Virginia, inmates used to get despite medical medical care grew to become into necessary. Then George Allen (son of the former coach of the Washington Redskins) grew to become into elected Governor. he's now interior the U.S. Senate. George pronounced it grew to become into no longer genuine for inmates to get loose medical medical care while the taxpayers ought to pay for thier own medical medical care. So now inmates ought to pay in direction of their own medical coverage. And ought to make co-money each and each time they have a medical medical care. maximum detention center jobs for inmates in basic terms pay $0.10 to $0.25/hour. Having to make the co-money has cut back down on the style of visits inmates make to docs, dentists, and so on. Many prisons even have tel-medicine. surely, the skill to run medical try & see the outcomes over the internet. it somewhat is to circumvent, while obtainable, having to transport an inmate previous the detention center partitions.

Talk to one of the correctional officers in there to give him a request form to talk to a nurse about the situation or request to see a doctor.
