"Quickly" and "soon" don't mean the same thing.
It simply means that when Jesus does finally return, it will all happen very fast.
Besides, we experience the presence of Jesus as He truly is, when we die and advance to the next life. Which will happen quickly, even if it doesn't happen soon.

He did come in power and strength. He said that some of those he was talking to would see the destruction. He said that generation would not pass away until he came. Not a stone of the temple would be left on top of another. He said a great tribulation would come on the saints. Nero was the beast/antichrist. Jesus made many more predictions about that time and they all came true by A.D. 70.
I know a lot of Christians disagree with me, but I didn't write history. For some reason they think it all still must happen again.

Yes very quickly. To God one thousand years is like one day, and one day is like a thousand years. Meaning: there is no time limit to God.
2 Peter 3:8
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
But the beauty of it is, that just as during the creation week, there were six days of labour and one day of rest, the seventh-day Sabbath. So as in the macro time, there will be six thousand years of earth labour, and one day (one thousand years) of rest in heaven, after which the eternal life will be continued on this earth made new.

Hahaha.... Imagine that.....and what if Jesus says surely I come slowly? .... I guess His perception of time is different from ours.
Actually, in the bible, there is a verse that tells that.
"But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day". - 2 Peter 3:8

Hello!
Yes, actually it´s a good question, and the Bible has the answer.
You know, the coming of the Messiah was prophetized since Adam and Eve sinned, and we found the first prophecy in Genesis 3:15...
"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel" (NKJV)
Eve had believed that this prophecy would be fulfilled so soon, that she even thought the Messiah could be her firstborn Cain.
Throughout the years, every mother dreamed that her son would be the promised Saviour. I bet that by the time Jesus was born, very few people still waited the coming of the Christ. Many of them had lost their hope (without even mention that the mission of the Christ had been misunderstood).
Peter, moved by the Holy Spirit, prophetized that that they would be people who would make fun about the Christian greatest hope:
"First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, 'Where is this "coming" he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.' " (2 Peter 3:3-4)
And he finally says on verses 8 and 9:
"But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
"With the Lord a day is like a thousands years, and a thousand years are like a day". God´s definition for "soon" is not the same definition we have. For the One who lives in eternity, time is not a problem.
"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance". Let´s be honest, how many of us would be saved if the Lord would come this very day? Would we be ready to receive Him? I´m sure that if the world were ready for His return He would have come already. But remember, Jesus said that the Gospel must be preached to all the world first and then the end will come. He never said that until the gospel is accepted by all the world, because many will not accept. He said that the gospel will be preached to everyone. The good news about Jesus Christ as the humanity´s Saviour will be known to everybody, everyone will have the opportunity to decide and choose what they´re going to do with this truth. Then He´ll come.
The Bible says that God "is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance". God doesn´t want anyone to be lost. If it were for Him, He would save everybody. But it is not Him who ultimately decides. He already made salvation possible for everybody, now it is the human´s part to accept it or reject it. God gave us free will. He wants to save you but He will not force you to accept His free gift. If we decide not to be saved, He´ll respect that though it will brake His heart.

Please, do not lose faith. He´ll come just as He promised. Think about it, He came the first time as He promised, why wouldn´t He come the second time? The second coming of Jesus is through the whole Bible, not only in the New Testament, but in the Old Testament too (read for example Daniel 2; what represents the rock that hits the statue in the feet?). Please, read MMatthew 24, when Jesus foretold the future of the world and the things that were going to happen before His coming. He says,
"So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him" (Matthew 24:44)
If you have any farther questions, please ask me, may be I could help you.
May God bless you!

Well, it's been several billion years since the earth formed, and possibly hundreds of trillions more years since the Big Bang occurred. So, I would think that there is no return on a small time frame.

Jesus meant that when the time comes, his approach to mankind on that day will be, rather, swift....... So much so that those who knew his coming was to be, would think that it is not likely to be anytime soon.... So that when he does come, he will find them not doing the works which they were supposed to be doing......
He says, "I come quickly" so as to warn those who are in the know, to be on guard always........ Because it will happen fast.....
your sister,
Ginger
