I was medically discharged from the USMC about 9 months ago. As soon as I got home I sent in an application for the VA. Well, 9 months later, and I still haven't heard anything yet. I'm injured pretty badly, I have no idea what is taking so long. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Or does anyone know how long it takes to get through to the VA?

I know this problem. My husband wait over 2 years for that. You need the check almost daily, I hope you give them every little papers for your files. They are sitting so long on this issue and after long long time they need all of sudden another papers and sitting there again.
You need to constantly stay in contact with them and need to make power. This is how it's works. In another case you can take contact also to your congress, they take contact directly to this people. Good luck for you and sorry to hear that you are ill.

I'm so sorry to hear about this!! I have a couple thoughts... First, have you contacted the VA? I would expect they'd have an admissions office that would have to in-process all the applications. If that doesn't get you anywhere, you might actually start calling your congressmen... I know it sounds dorky, but they love a good human interest story... and they DO have pull with the VA.

In the interim, go to MarineParents.com and hunt around... those folks are a GREAT resource for anything and everything Marine Corps. If Tracy and her folks haven't found the answer and posted it someplace on that site, then somebody on the message boards will have your answers...

Note... I'd make sure to keep a copy of anything you send to the VA.. and to send it with a "return receipt" so you'll know when and who received your letters.

Good Luck to you, Marine! And Thanks for your Service!

follow up and make sure all the needed paper work is being filed check everything out. I received a medical discharge from the service and when tried to follow up found out my case was downgraded. Do not put all your faith in the government doing the right thing that very, very, seldom happens.

The VA screws everybody. Get ahold of the DAV or American LEgion VFW and they can help get them lazy SOB's going. Took me 5 years to get benefits the Navy doctors told me should have been automatic.
