I do not have a problem with Celebes funding education but schools they support should be available to the whole population.
Apart from being exclusive to black girls only the school has another criteria for entry in that the family from which the student comes has a monthly income of less than R5000.00 ($715.00) per month. There are many colored, Asian and white families that would qualify but they are precluded as they are not black enough.
This thinking is very much in line with the current SA Government policy of BLACK EMPOWERMENT. I have personally had experience of being denied the right to supply businesses and Cities because I do not have a Black Partner, I can an do sell to a black empowered company who will then supply that business or City
This costs the tax payer and consumer plenty as goods supplied have to go through extra hands, and they are greedy because of the enforced supply chain rules.

Surely this is no different to Apartheid.

We are all South Africans. The color definitions and segregation was what the world ostracized us for under the previous government.

The official qualifications are as follows:
Winfrey selected the 11- to-12-year-old girls for the school from 3,500 applications across the country. To qualify, they had to show both academic and leadership potential and have a household income of no more than 5,000 rand (€545.40) a month.

It does not say ONLY black girls will be admitted. This is in Africa, so obviously the majority of applicants will be black.

I think Oprah is doing a fantastic thing by opening this school. Please, don't try to find something negative in this great event.

In response to this being a "sexist" act, this is a PRIVATE school. This means that Oprah is using her own money to fund it, and thus, has decided to make a girls-only school. This is not uncommon for private schools. One of the reasons it is girls-only is because the students live on-campus. It would be much more difficult to monitor a co-ed teenager filled private school.

Once again, this is a great accomplishment. We should all be happy for the lucky girls who were chosen to attend this new school and wish them the best of luck.

I don't know about the reasoning and i guess miss d may be right. however if the school is ony for GIRLS then providing the fund builds a boys school to the same standards then there should be no problem if they don't then the fund could be considered sexist not racist.

and if miss D is correct then the school is for girls in genereal not just black girls.
but then what do i know iof the project and reasoning behind i'll tell you i know nothing.
why not go to any official site for the project and read about there goals and what they have achieved. It has to be better than getting your information from third party sources such as any branch of the news media or from online forums such as this answers forum.

good luck and do your research if it bothers you so much. and if the facts you report are true then write to the fund/foundation oprah and ask them why the scholl is only this or that whatever it says on the web, make your points to them. afterall if you want thjem to change they are the only people who can change that fund governments could try but that could take decades of talking with nothing happening on the ground.

as long as all the kids get a good and fair education boys and girls does it matter if the schools are mixed race, single gender or whatever. the same standard taught to all is all that we can ask as a society.
as for education what about china restricting there citizens access to some websites for example the BBC.co.uk is blocked by the china firewall according to what i heard from bbc new recently.

just my opinion on a subject i know little about.

No. Racists are people who purpose people because of the fact of their race for ill reason (like violence or slander). assisting purely black people isn't racist, that could be a sturdy purpose with limitations. very almost each philanthropist does the comparable element, they decide on an interest and help it to the exclusion of others, even with the shown fact that not consistently consistent with race or ethnicity. Many college scholarships even have exclusivity written into their standards. that would not lead them to discriminitory agaisnt those with GPA's under 3.0 or scholars who do not pursue journalism or scholars who did not connect a fraternity.
