You probably can't buy one but you can trap one. Here's how; get a nylon stocking, put a rock in the toe about the dia. of a quarter and tie a knot to keep it in. Now go to an open area where bats are feeding. Throw the stocking as high as you can. The bats will think it's flying food and will dive for it getting their claws stuck to the nylon. When it comes down with an entangled bat, catch it with a net.

Since I am in the retail pet trade, can tell you firsthand that most bats are endangered and it is illegal to posess them. It is also illegal to go into a cave in the winter and disturb them. That's a fine, so think about some other kind of animal as a pet.

They are all copycats.. they ape their elders, parents and forefather.. Besides, they believe that the world is upside down, and to see the world in straight way, they hang upside down. Moreover, usually, they live together in millions in a congested-narrow place.. So, in order to save space and accommodate more they hang this way.. One more, It is easier and faster to take the flying start towards the gravitation power than in opposite direction, in case of unexpected incidents.So they hang facing the earth (upside down)

dont buy a bat. just dont. they're not domesticated. wild animals are wild animals. and you probably would need to have a special permit and other credentials in order to keep a bat. if i were you, i'd just volunteer at a bat rehabilitation center. i think there's a big, major one in boston, ma.
