Okay, I am not gay, nor Christian nor liberal, but I do have an opinion on this. First I have seen many gays choose one partner and stay with them for life. My dad had a half sister who was gay and I found out after I got grown that her best friend and room mate was her life partner. Back in the fifties and sixties parents hid these thing from children.
Second, I think that the reason gays want to be married is so they can have the same rights that married heterosexuals have. In most states if the husband does not leave a will all his property goes to his wife. If a spouse gets sick and is on life support the other spouse has the athority to tell the doctors to either pull the plug, or keep it plugged in if the sick person has no living will.
Gays would like these same benifits. Like I said, I am not gay, but if I was and my life partner was rich and died without a will, I would want to have the same rights as straight people. Okay another opinion the gay marriage thing is political and the term liberal is a political state of mind. Some states have gay marriages and some do not however if it comes to a vote, each person should vote their own beleif on this whether for or against.
Personally, I think we should have a nation wide vote on it so all states will be the same one way or other. That way if the whole country had gay marriages, then those gay marrieds will be married no matter what state they live in, but on the other hand if it is voted down, then a lot of gays would be upset. I would rather vote on this issue as I do not trust our elected officials to make that decision. With a vote all the gays will have a vote and all the Christians will hacve a vote. This country is so evenly divided on this issue, it could go either way.
Personally to me it does not matter one way or other, but of course I am straight so it does not upset me that we have no gay marriage here in my state, but I do understand both sides of this issue and like I said above if I was gay and had a life partner, i would want the same rights as everyone else.
Besides in my opinion if we have gay marriages that should not effect anyone's faith. Those that beleive homesexuality is a sin will still have that right and freedom to beleive that way. Just because your neighbor happens to be gay, does not mean you have to hate them, on the contrary, you should love them. Jesus teaches love for all mankind and yes he teaches that Christians should love those of us (yes i include myself as I am not christian, but pagan) Who are sinners and unbeleivers.. He did not say preach to us nor did he say tell us we are going to hell, but he said to love us.
Even though I am not gay, I have had many gay friends and honestly, I would rather live around several gay couples who are good neighbors than the straight neighbors I now have as I live amonst criminal types. Being gay does not hurt anyone, in my opinion.
An example from the bible, yes the bible says homesexuality is a sin, but that is directed at those who beleive the bible. In Jesus day he did not try to change the political system of the day to include his teachings. In Greece, we know that homesexuality was the accepted norm and many Greek and Roman governors and political leaders wer either homesexual or bisexual. But we have no condemnation in the bible of the political structure, but we do have in romans chapter 13 a inspired man saying that the governments were of God and the Christian should obey the governments because they do not bear the sword for nothing. Yes the governments wer pagan at the time, but the bible says all governments are of God. Even the pagan and liberal ones.
My point is that the Christians nor Christ ever condemned the governments of their day even though a lot of them were homesexual and even though homosexuality was the norm. the conmdemnation of homosexuality is religious and not political. What a person beleives spirituality should not effect the government rulings. Of course in our system christians can vote issues into law, but so can non christians.
If put to a vote, we may have legal gay marriages nation wide.

Wait, there's plenty of polygamy in the Bible. What's that story again, about the man who works and works to marry his beloved, but her father foists the ugly sister on him instead, so he works and works some more to marry the one he loves? I'm pretty sure he's a pretty significant guy....
In other news--gay marriage and polygamy aren't the same thing. Why do scientists harp about the dangers of smoking cigarettes and not about the dangers of playing poker?

Liberals and progressives are far more interested in freedom and civil rights than any of you robot xians could dream of or begin to understand. We don't "push" gay marriage - that's a distortion you freaks use to get your other robots excited about this non-issue. We push EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL, got that? And our government has no business telling consenting adults how to behave sexually, *ever*, because the government is not the church police!
If more than two adults want to marry each other, I don't see a damn thing wrong with that, either. I'm not talking about Mormons who force children into marriage, have too many kids and then go on welfare, though - those are criminal acts.
Why oh why do xians insist on butting their noses into other people's private lives - is it because you don't have lives of your own?
By the way, your clown picture couldn't be more appropriate.

Polygamy is about being married to more than one person at the same time - totally different issue. As for the Bible it all depends on which version you read and then again which passage you choose to 'interpret' Would someone please wake up and realise you can not back up bigotry and ignorance with comments like 'the bible says...'

liberals love the environment. more humans are bad for the environment. gay marriage=two individuals who can't reproduce w/ each other=less babies=less humans=healthier environment. polygamy means the same or more babies, so it's pointless. although i'm a liberal and i don't oppose polygamy if it's by choice.

Because gay marriage is a major issue that targets minorities and strips them of their human rights because of what it says in an ancient book. Their type of ignorance and intolerance is what killed Matthew Shepard and it's a disease of the human race. The HATRED is the disease I mean, not the homosexuality. I'm all about gay rights.

You mean if it isn't a myth, it isn't right.
But to your actual question, polygamy is abusive of individual rights, while gay marriage recognizes those same individual rights. AKA it's about having a conscience and being able to look yourself in the mirror the next morning. It's about compassion instead of contempt.

shut up. they don't push polygamy because it is sexist. Can you imagine the huge outcry the first time some woman tries to marry 3 or 4 men?

Who is "pushing" gay marriage? It's exorcising one's own human rights to live their the way they think they should. As long as it doesn't hurt someone else, who cares, because it's nobody elses business how you live your life. If people want to marry more than one partner then they should be allowed as long as all parties involved agree to it.
