Its herpes, a virus. You can't prevent them, but there are pills you can take as soon as you feel you are getting one, that will quickly get rid of them. Talk to a doctor. There are hundreds of other ointment type of medications that claim to make them go away faster, but they don't work as well. Don't kiss other people when you have one or they will get the virus, and no oral or they will get genital herpes.

I believe the cause of them is herpes virus in the body. I have heard apple cider vinegar on a cotton ball held to the area for a short time, but I don't know if it works.
The best thing I have ever used for cold sores is Lactinex pills. Ask your pharmacist. They are not prescription, but have to be refrigerated so they are not out on the counter. They somehow replace healthy microbes in the body that suppress the herpes virus. Start taking them at the first tingle, and sometimes it won't even go ahead to develop into a cold sore. Stop taking them when the cold sore or the feeling of a cold sore is gone.
The second best thing is Acidophilus pills. I believe it works the same way as the Lactinex but it takes longer. You will find it in the vitamin section. Again, ask your pharmacist how many you can safely take. Stop taking them once the threat of cold sore has passed.
This must be the best kept secret ever because I tried everything else to no avail until my pharmacist told me about the Lactinex.
I tried Lysine, but it did nothing to help me. Maybe it has to be taken consistently instead of just during an outbreak.
I hope this works as well for you as it has for me. I have often wondered if it would work for genital herpes as well, but I just don't know.

Cold sores are from a virus called herpes simplex 1. At some point you were exposed to it. But, there is not a point in our lives when we can tell when or where it came from.
My grandmother had them all of the time and I am sure, her kisses gave them to me.
There is medication that your doctor can prescribe for you called Valtrex (Valaciclovir ) Usually directed to take when you feel the tingling associated with the cold sores. Also, keep the area moist with a cream, when the blisters start to heal it can be painful to eat anything acidic or salty.
Good luck

I got diagnosed with genital herpes (type 2) about five years back, when I was still attending college and had a dumb one-night stand. I know a lot of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a huge mistake that one time and all of a sudden it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for my entire life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date other men again. After all, who wants to go out with someone who has sores around her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/k5FQl everything changed.
Not only was I able to eliminate all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!!! This system gave me back the opportunity to be happy and experience real love again. Now I want to help others too by sharing this story.

Cold Sores are in the same family as the Herpes zoster Virus, and the childhood disease of Chicken Pox. Unfortunately there is no known cure that I'm aware of. Best to do the old tried but true
home remedies. Just keep the area dry and clean and Don't let anyone else get it

The herpes simplex virus (HSV) is a virus that manifests itself in two common viral infections. The disease is contagious, particularly during an outbreak, and is incurable with present technology. An infection on the lips is commonly known as a "cold sore" or "fever blister".
HSV is generally transmitted by direct contact of lips when the sores are present, or just before they appear (known as shedding).
Treatment is available in the form of antiviral medications such as Aciclovir (trade name Zovirax) and Valaciclovir (trade name Valtrex), which reduces the duration of symptoms and accelerates healing. Treatment should begin at the first symptoms of an outbreak for best results as far as duration and healing; should treatment begin before the lesions appear, it is possible that the outbreak can be averted.

Cold sores are a straind of herpes. there are 2 strainds of that std. the other one results in sever sores in your groin area. Neither are curable but there are medications that slow down the outbreaks. If you have these sores do not kiss anyone or share a drink, etc.

A cold sore is a form of the Herpes virus and you can't prevent them because you can't get rid of herpes, but you can help them heal faster by using abreva, carmex, or other cold sore medicines.
