Atheism is very old. The Greek philosopher Diagoras in the 5th century B.C. is widely considered to be the first atheist. Science and Church have often been in confrontation over theory and how it would affect the believers. That's what brought the Church in conflict with Galileo and Copernicus: They were afraid a world in which the earth was no longer the center of things would no longer correspond to a world in which man was made in the image of God.

There has always been atheism. Some people simply don't need god to explain how things work around them. Those who see a trend in science explaining things that previously religions were invented to explain are free-thinkers and don't need a faery tale. For instance, even before Evolution, atheists realize that Zeus never created lightning and thunder.
It's true that there are more and more atheists over time as science can explain more and more. The trend will continue indefinitely.

Atheism and evolution believe it or not, can exclude each other. Atheists equals evolutionists doesn't mean evolutionism creates atheism. There were atheists prior to the theory of evolution, but many of the were undoubtably forced to keep quiet, or risk ostrication, torture, and/or death by the deluded religious powers. One of the reasons atheists come about their beliefs results from a rejection of relgious dogma; it is a sign of healthy skepticism and freethinking.

Of course there have been atheists since the beginning of realization. It's the most natural of beliefs even before man conjured up superstitious gods or god.

I believe there have been nonbelievers for all of time. Evolution is just the proof that the bible is fiction.

First of all, not all atheists require the "evolution" banner to rally around. Not now. Not "back then".
Atheism is merely yet another way created to deceive and distract from the love and mercy of the one true God, and salvation thru His Son, Jesus.
