Well Thanks so far, and I accidently put a wrong sentence. What I meant when I was saying about my sister was that I have to help take care of it. Opps :

A Persian cat is scared out of his surroundings. They are nice loyal pets. The cat will hide from you. Please be patient with it.Cats are warm and fun to be with. I have two and there isn't any reason to be scared of a cat. Sorry to tell you but Persian are the hardest to get to know. Best of luck!

The big difference between Persian cats and other breeds is that Persian cats are unable to care for their own fur. They have been bred to have such long, soft fur that they need you to take care of it. If you are thinking about a Persian you need to make sure you have the time and patience to brush the fur every single day. Otherwise it will matt.

The trip to the vet will answer a lot of your questions. The fleas are a first concern, because they will infest fabric and upholstery in your spare room and be hard to get rid of. Veterinary prescribed solutions are the best; a lot of the home remedies simply don't work, and some are dangerous to cats' health. To help keep them down till the vet visit, vacuum everything daily. Put a piece of flea collar in the vaccuum cleaner bag; tape the bag closed and throw it away. If her tail has healed, amputation probably isn't necessary. Cats depend on their tails for balance and for "talking". Moist cat food will probably do more good than milk replacer; keep some dry kibbles out as well, and plenty of fresh water. I'm glad she found a loving home.

I'm debating with myself weather you mean persian by breed or persian by type of hair *think "fluffy"* Either way, I'm gonna answer for the long haired cats in general *every cat i've ever known was essentially a mutt that purrs*

The long haired cats are beatiful and silky. You get the fat cat look with a perfectly healthy cat most times, but then you really don't much notice when they start looking thin. I read a few answers as to the shedding and furballs, and it's a problem easily remidied. Get a slicker brush and brush the kitty daily. It's soothing for both you and cat and removes the dead hair *stuff that ends up on the couch*. I do it when I'm bored, which is often. Aside from the hair, they aren't much different than any other cat.

As for the fear of cats, I can relate. Well, it was a specific cat who really looked like he had swallowed a deflated basketball as a kitten and it inflated over the years. Due to his size, it was obvious he could do some dammage if he wanted to, and he often wanted to. Never before had I run from a cat. Never before had I slept on the couch because a cat was in my bed. Makes for an entertaining story, though. Just go hang out around a shelter, prefferably one with the kind of cat room where they run free. Nothing like being confronted with dozens of cats that will jump into your arms to get over that fear. Shelter cats are usually really well tempered. They know who brings the food, I guess. But yeah, don't waste money on a persian, just get a fluffy mutt kitty from you shelter.

I have a Persian cat and have for the past three years. The only bad thing about them is that they have lots of fur so you have to brush them everyday without fail or they will get matted and you will have to shave them in a lions cut. They are great companions though and mine is the love of my life! They are beautiful when groomed properly! They are also expensive I paid $600 for mine but she's worth it!

1. They tend to shed alot of hair
2. Sneezing is common around them
3. Washing there coat has to be done around 3-4 times a year to wash the fur and get rid of the excess fur
4. Brushing becomes something you need to do every day nearly

I had a persian cat , she turned he lol was of all very kind nature but the maintence of this breed is very hard if you don't have time , they are also very attaching to the owner emotionally so you need to be there for them , they are like little babies that never want you to leave. I love this breed but i always have thought before i've bought them.

Any issues , just mail me at lil_crazi_chik14@hotmail.com

Happy New Year! From Stelle.

a cat or a persian cat, hair, clawing furniture, maybe not wanting to potty train, sometimes they like to howl, needing medical care, our first one in this house cost us almost a thousand dollars in the first 4 months of life and still could not be saved. there is nothing to be afraid of with cats, thats just silly, get hypnotized, even if a cat is potty trained the litter gets everywhere, and it makes a lot of dust in the house, now why isnt your sister going to take care of her own cat? they cost at least twenty dollars a month to feed.each cat that is.persians in particular have sinus troubles because of those smashed in noses and all long haired cats have hair balls they will throw up every day or two. persians and all long haired cats need to be brushed every day, the cat litter has to be emptied and its stinky. sis needs to pony up the cost and do the work or no go, if shes not willing to take care of it, and its your house, well she has no right to have one, tell her to grow up and pay the bills then she can have a moose if she likes . by the way i love cats and have 3 inside and more outside that i feed and i help catch strays and get them neutered and get their shots. its a three time a day feeding and dish washing frenzy and there is always cat litter in the carpet. such is life.

Persians can be VERY teritorial. My old cat hershey (chocolate colored persian that i grew up with, but my dad made me give him away because of this reason..) sprayed everywhere. Granted, we do have one other cat, so if he is going to be the only one, he may only do it the first time he gets to the house.

There eyes and faces get really messy, but its kind of cute about them. Just make sure to keep the gunk out of his eyes with a tissue or toilet paper.

A BIG ISSUE with them is that it WILL get MATTED! Their fur can look gorgeous when its combed, but if you neglect it, it will get horribly tangled. More than once hershey's coat got so matted we had to shave him.. he looked like a tiny lion since he still had fur around his neck lol. But just be careful with that.

As for your fear... Just sit with one (i dont know how hard that is for you) and just pet it and groom it. Just realize that its a loving animal (like a dog or even hamster). Just type in a search on google images for cute kittens lol. that will help you see how awesome cats are.

Hope i helped!

Hair! Lots and lots of it..... Lots of grooming and lots of cleaning to do with a long haired cat. That's fine...IF your young and energetic. But if your not.... It's best to stick to the shorter haired cats. The fluffy cats are always so soft and fluffy and furry.... But a lot of work.

As to the fear of cats.... Do you feel the same way about little kittens? If you don't, I think you'd probably adjust as the kitten grows older. Ask yourself why you are afraid of them. I've never known a cat that was out to hurt to someone. But have known some that are very unsocialable to new people. If it's fear of being scratched... DOn't get a cat. Scratching comes with the territory. Usually it's by accident though. As for biting....I've had a lot of cats in my life and only bit by one---and he was wounded and it terrible pain; he was trying to protect himself against another attack and I was trying to help him.

If it's your sister who wants the cat, why is she wanting YOU to take care of it? If she's able, I'd make her do the grooming and cleaning..... AND THE FEEDINGS. If YOU do it, the cat will be yours---as far as the cat is concerned.

I used to have lots of cats and do prefer them over other pets. RIght now, we have 3 small dogs.... And I'm constantly having to sweep and mop! Today was/is bath day. I have one dog to go..... Lots of fun.... (smile). Brenda

Persians are beautiful cats but recommended to people who have alot time and no kids.
Like retiree's lol.
They have beautiful coats and temperments but only to one or two people they can very jealous.
So if you dont have kids or have olders ones they are a perfect loyal cat to have.
