My hair is naturally dark brown too! I used to hate it, so I got highlights. I hated them. So I let them grow out. Now I embrace my hair color. Think of it like this: We are given the perfect mix...not black, not brown, but a better, richer, beautiful something in between. Leave it alone.

my hair is the same, most people think my hair is black instead of brown. i guess it depends on what color you are thinking of changing it to. if you want to make it red that will be easy. only problem is if you change your mind even if you dye your hair black when it grows out it will still have a reddish tint to it. if you want to change your hair color to a non traditional one like blue or pink then you have to bleach your hair first, which i heard is an extremely painful process. as far as damage goes there never appears to be any but then it also depends on weather or not you already subject your hair to other damaging processes like hot irons, excessive blow drying, long exposure to sun, chlorine, etc. or if you have really thin hair you might want to look for a mild hair dye. otherwise dying your hair can be really fun and all the hair dyes come with high quality conditioners which counter act the damage of the dye. i liked garnier since it smells better than most dyes. whatever you decide good luck.

i personally think that natural is the best. it show how healthy your hair is. my hair is dark brown and i leave it and people love my hair but it is your call on what you want to do with your hair.

Try streaking it to see if you like a subtle change, Get used to the difference and decide if you still like it and then take the plunge if your sure.

when I dye my hair it turns out silkier and smoother then before i dyed it. It dosen't always ruin your hair. If you hate your hair then dye It If you don't like it you'll appreciate your hair more when its grown out.that's what happened to me.

how bout dyeing it a darker colour? it doesn't have to be permanent, you can use Loreal Colour Pulse in Black . its semi permanent so it can wash out. personally i find dark hair really sexy.

one word.
EXPERIMENT!

okay. please dont go permanent.
but why not go semi permanent?
go to www.colorpulseusa.com
it last for 8-12 weeks and it's cheap-only 5 bucks and it's VERY easy to apply. (it's a mousse)
i've tried this lOTS of times i also used the herbal essence/clairol one and both of them work very well! i suggest the loreal (color pulseusa.com) becuase it has more variety of color-but if you want to check out the clairol one the link is
http://www.clairol.com/colorflirt/usa/index.jsp
check both of them and try it! it works well!!

good luck!
