It's not always 10:10. Sometimes it is 8:20.
Note that both are somewhat symmetrical hand positions.
The 8:20 position goes way back to the time when the brand name of the watch was in the upper half, centered below the number 12 position. By having the hands of the watch at 8:20, the logo was clearly positioned and the hands did not distract from it.

it is not only in advertisements, any watch for sale will have the time adjusted to 10:10. this time represents the time at which the former President of United States of America, John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The Americans had done this to show respect to their leader.

Are you sure about all of them? check some ads again. There are some watches in ads with that adjustment but not all of them. Maybe the hands are in a symmetrical position without covering other objects of the face. My be they can inspire the sign of victory.
