Many people believe that the Catholic Church of yesterday is as bad as the Islamic militants of today. There is some basis for that thought. The Inquisition and the Crusades. Wish someone had stopped the Church if those days, hope someone stops the Militants today. But neither one speaks for ALL Christians. I am Christian but I do not belong to a denomination. I attend a church that does not belong to particular denomination.

Both Christianity and Islam have been spread through other means than missionary converson. I realize the Crusades were bloody, racist and wrong, but I do not go on about something done nine hundred years ago.

I think there is a difference between being a Christian, loving Jesus Christ and the decisions made by a corrupt religious authority following the orders of an absolute monarch who ran the whole society and controlled the military and wealth four hundred or so years ago. It doesn't make it right, but it was four hundred years ago.

With Christianity, it was about colonialism, political maneuvering and materialism. In the case of France, it was excessive nationalism, as well as Germany in the 20th century. In the case of Islam, it was about bringing law and order to fractured, warring lands.

In actuality Christianity never spread the religion through violence. The new world was all about materialistic wealth and a passage to India. The crusades did not occur to spread christianity but to capture the holy land. The christian wars like the 30 years war involved protestants and catholics killing one another, but not to spread christianity. There is no time in history that christianity was spread by violence.

The difference is that true Christianity as found in scripture NEVER condones nor promotes violence, anger, nor killing of those who do not accept Christianity. The Koran does.

So when Muslims have spread Islam by the sword they have done it through the reading of their Koran. When Christians have attempted to spread Christianity by the sword it has been done by those who have adulterated scripture. You will find nowhere in the New Testament any reference to violence against unbelievers. Can't be said about the Koran.

I'm not aware of pagans ever doing any crusades. Why would Christianity have a crusade against pagans? Isn't Christianity about love?

You are wrong. Christianity was first spread by the blood of the Christian martyrs. This was mainly in Rome. Please read about the history of your religion. Since you say that you are Christian, you should read about the great Christian persecution in the early years of Christianity, especially in Rome. In those days, you were killed if you said that you were a Christian. This was especially true in Rome. Read about the evil Roman Emperor Nero and all the things he did to the Christians.

The difference between that and the start of Islam is that Muslims converted people by the sword, but Christians were killed by the sword in the beginning. Even today, there are many Christians who are persecuted and killed simply for being Christians. This is especially true in Muslim countries where it's against the law to be anything other than Muslim.

Christians did not start or take part in the Crusades.

Jesus brought a message of love and righteousness, humility and servanthood.
I don't see much of that in the cruelty of the Crusades (brought about by the Romans who were bent on destroying and controlling)

In psychological terms this is called transference.

And please, don't let your religion make you feel guilty for something that not only you did not do, but also disaprove.

Your hands DON'T have any blood, just see them.
