According to the Bible it was made of wood of resinous tree (Cyprus was abundant and was favored by ship builders because it was resistant to water and decay) and it was covered on the outside with pitch (like tar) to keep it from leaking. Additionally, the Bible provides the specific dimentions of the ark. It measured 437 ft 6 in x 72 ft 11 in x 43 ft 9 in, had 2 floors and 3 decks.
Here is some interesting information regarding the kinds of animals:
...some investigators have said that, had there been as few as 43 “kinds” of mammals, 74 “kinds” of birds, and 10 “kinds” of reptiles in the ark, they could have produced the variety of species known today. Others have been more liberal in estimating that 72 “kinds” of quadrupeds and less than 200 bird “kinds” were all that were required. That the great variety of animal life known today could have come from inbreeding within so few “kinds” following the Flood is proved by the endless variety of humankind—short, tall, fat, thin, with countless variations in the color of hair, eyes, and skin—all of whom sprang from the one family of Noah.
These estimates may seem too restrictive to some, especially since such sources as The Encyclopedia Americana indicate that there are upwards of 1,300,000 species of animals. (1977, Vol. 1, pp. 859-873) However, over 60 percent of these are insects. Breaking these figures down further, of the 24,000 amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, 10,000 are birds, 9,000 are reptiles and amphibians, many of which could have survived outside the ark, and only 5,000 are mammals, including whales and porpoises, which would have also remained outside the ark. Other researchers estimate that there are only about 290 species of land mammals larger than sheep and about 1,360 smaller than rats. (The Deluge Story in Stone, by B. C. Nelson, 1949, p. 156; The Flood in the Light of the Bible, Geology, and Archaeology, by A. M. Rehwinkel, 1957, p. 69) So, even if estimates are based on these expanded figures, the ark could easily have accommodated a pair of all these animals.

Note that it is 1/12th of the size, and they still did not float it on a canal. Find me a maritime engineer that can design a wooden boat the size of the ark that will not break up or leak like a sieve on a calm ocean swell and I will take the story slightly more seriously. Also I must have missed the bit about Noah making 6ft high panes of glass. The windows on the ark are described as a single window one cubit square. To provide adequate ventilation over the three decks Noah would have to design a system to move air though the window at about 200 mph. Finally, where did you get 40 days? That is how long it rained. Go back a re-read the passage. The animals were on the ark for one year.

the story of noahs ark is a rewritten version of the story of Gilgamesh (spelling may be off) in it it says that he was no such god man but rather a merchant, the description of the "ark" is actually the description of the type of boats used then( miss understood and retold incorrectly of coarse). the boats were square like and it was a major flood in which he gathered his folk of sheep and various grazers and tied the boats together upon the end of the flood he landed and was ridiculed and became an out cast for reasons I cannot recall just now. however if you do a search for Gilgamesh you'll find the full story and where it actually comes from.
enjoy learning the truth!!!!

God gave Noah the dimensions of the ark as to how big to build it and so, the ark was more than big enough for Noah and his family along with all the animals they were told to take aboard. God doesn't give people wrong directions - He cannot sin, so therefore, the directions God gave to Noah on how big to build it was not in error. If you don't believe the ark was that big and couldn't have held Noah, his family and all the animals, then you don't believe God and His word. The ark was just that - an ark.

I think that Noah's ark was a "wood boat". A really, really big "wood boat". One big enough to "fit his family and every species of mammal/reptile on earth on it". One big enough to weather the rough sea.

A tall tall tale.
A six hundred year old man?
every animal on the planet?
And food for months and months?
Just think of all of the live animals they would of had to bring just for food!!! The food itself it would have taken a boat three times the size of the alleged ark

The Bible is a metaphorical book of historical and spiritual significance. I do not question the workings of God but I do believe that biblical literalism is a bad idea. I see it as the history of the Jewish faith before Christianity, and the foundation for Christianity, which has gotten away from its roots.

They had Jehovah on their side so everything is possible even a wooden boat that could hold all those animals together in the water.

God kept sandals from wearing out for 40 years in the wilderness. I think the ark was just what he said it was and he said it was wood.

Noah was over 600 years old. That would make a very intelligent person. That means it is possible.
