This is something weird I've been thinking about lately. Now, you design your house on your own, and you pick out your own clothes obviously for a reason because you like them at that time. Does it ever seem to you that when you bring people in your house that you wish your house looked different because you don't like it. Or you realize after seeing your clothes everydaythat they really dont look that great. I can't really describe it, maybe someone else understands?

Your question is whether anyone else thinks this way. My answer is yes, at least I did and still do sometimes. One reason could be that you changed for various reasons and what you think was beautiful is no longer beautiful. This is understandable, just look at those old photos, I can't believe people would think those dresses were pretty.

On the other hand, it is possible the expectation you think the people you bring to your house have for you. I usually keep my place comfortable but very simple, with a few pieces of furniture. Depending on the friend I brought in, sometimes I do wish that my place have a different "atmosphere" because I sense they thought my home should be different from what it is in reality. I thought about this for a while and think that I do like how my house is furnished and arranged. That is just another fact to help my friends to see another side of me.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I know what it is... Some people call it "nonconformist" or "undecided". But I prefer to say "lack of personality". Most people try to dress or have houses like the one in the tv, like the one in the magazine, or worst, like the neighbors. If each of us, build our own style, personality and feel good in our own skin, we will not have problem accepting and loving what we pick.

Happens to me with the clothes, I've never designed my own house.
I love them on the manikin and when I try them on but the moment I leave the store I realize I don't like them. I think it's something to do with me being Libran lol

You are seeing (and feeling) a popular trend of customization.

Machines could build us equipment very cheaply, and at first in only a few varieties. That is changing to respond to the market better.

When you buy a modern house you can chose the paint schemes, the tile, your wallpaper and carpet, even select from a variety of floor plans. 20 years ago you had a choice of which house you wanted, but they were built to a standard and the new owner wasn’t given any say in the design or the deco. Next generation houses will be built with a fast setting concreted laid automatically by a machine that is very similar to an ink jet printer. With this method you can build a building of any design in just a few days.

One common idea of the future is to have a holographic projector to create your wardrobe. If you don’t like your wardrobe then download a new one. If that isn’t good enough then use sometime similar to a paint program and design your own wardrobe. Before we have holographic clothes we can make custom clothes with a stock design and a set of patterns that you can have printed on the clothing. You can even buy a program that will let you make custom patterns. You can send it off to a clothing wholesaler and have the new dress mailed to you.

GM has come out with a new sled design for cars of the future. The equipment common to all cars will be built into a sled, then based on the sled the new owner can pick a wide range of body types. They can even come back and buy more bodies to change the model as their mood or needs change. You might need a sedan to pick up your kids, but later you can change to a convertible when you and your spouse go out for the evening. Last year Nike looked into the same concept. A basketball shoe, a running shoe and a casual dress shoe would all use the same footprint design with customized shoe bodies that vary with the need.

Nanomachines are an exciting new technology. A lot of things can be done with them, from designing a scrubbing system that will clear plaque off the inside of blood vessels to creating a vat of proteins that can custom die cloth that can be weaved together on a loom creating custom dresses. Carbon nonofibers are stronger than steel, by weight. Long microscopic strands of carbon are woven together to create a rope as thin as a thread and as strong as a ½” steel cable. We are just starting to develop this capability and if it becomes fully realized then we can create nanoassemblers that create a piece of equipment on the spot, and customized to the user’s taste.

When Bill Gates designed his billion dollar estate in Seattle he hung LCD screens on the wall to act as paintings, then he bought the rights to show famous artwork in his home. He customizes his wall hangings, as he wants. Maybe he goes through a Van Gogh phase and a day lady he wants to post pictures of his family or his employees. We see that today, on a small scale, in a page size (or less) picture frame that can rotate through some images, or be connected to the Internet where images can be downloaded into it.

Everyone tastes differ and they often differ with your mood or phase of life. It is natural and it gives you control over your life, in a world where control isn’t always within our grasp. Women are often seen as keepers of the home and they like to redecorate, often they like to change the furniture, or the layout of the room. This is a reflection of that desire to customize things and vary it to their tastes. Men like to have something familiar to come home to so they aren’t as interested in making those changes, but they have the same feelings. One reason why men stray, in their marriages, is because they want some variety (known as the 7 year itch). Others may want a new car, or to get it repainted. The instinct that you are talking about is a common one and not anything to worry about, you want a change and you want to exert more control. Our society is going in the same direction. Look at the IPod, what makes it a great machine is that the user gathers the songs he/she likes. They don’t have to listen to an entire album, or something that they don’t want to. They will enjoy every song because they only chose their favorites. When their song library grows they can change what songs they carry. One day they can have the blues on their IPod, the next day they can have rock and roll, and the next punk rock or something else. It is infinitely customizable. Napster started the craze with free songs, but it has remained a strong one because of the customization feature. In the future our society will make this easier and let you do more and more of it.

Yes because most people are very worried about how others percieve them instead of how they percieve themselves.

That's right. Because once you have something, it isn't any good any more. You have to have something new. What you have doesn't usually fulfill the materialistic desire because it isn't new anymore.
